50+1 is the best thing about german football. I think the only good way you could challenge bayerns dominance is by changing how the revenue from the TV deals etc is shared. Because in my opinion bayern gets a far to big share from it. As of today I think how much you get is mostly determined by how succesful you are. This gives bayern and rb Leipzig even more anunfair advantge. It should in my opinion mostly be determined by how much people watch your games or how much interest you create in generell because that's also what gets you those deals. And nobody wants to watch red bull for example far more people are interested in frankfurt, cologne, schalke or even teams from the second division like hamburg or dresden. I’d say the three main reasons were If you look at the end result of the season Leicester only missed out on conference by a relatively small amount of points the majority of which were lost due to set pieces and poor 85min+ play. 1) Injuries to the defence which created terrible cohesiveness and rhythm in set pieces which was compounded by crap solutions (Vestegard) 2) a lack of cleverness and in game management to close out games too often - I think there might be 4-5 games this season where points were lost in the last five mins (Brighton, Everton, Tottenham, West Ham)

Hey Tifo.....Question: With Juan Mata leaving United at the end of the season it's a underwhelming end to the career of a player who was genuinely on the cusp of being one of the best midfielders in the game.........so my question is was his decline as a result of the game moving over from a more creative no 10 who gives more on the ball creatively but having to cope with his lack of defensive noice or was he already a decling force already
@tobyjimmy2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I'd say United using Mata on the right flank started his decline
@areebsiddiqui7582 жыл бұрын
He wasn't just on the cusp. Mata was Chelsea's best player when we won the Champions League in 2012 as well as the year after when we won the Europa League in 2013. Mata was genuinely among the best playmakers in world football at the time, maybe only behind Mesut Ozil and Messi. Then Mourinho came in and sold him to United because he wanted to play Oscar in Mata's place. Tbf it was quite a sudden decline and really unexpected. It seemed at the time United had pulled of a coup and Chelsea had made a huge mistake letting go of arguably their best player at the time.

Why is it that when a team that normally plays a back 3 plays a team that normally plays a back 4, a lot of the time the team that normally plays the back 4 will play a back 3 to 'match' the other team? Does this mean that a back 3 has an advantage over a back 4?
@andrew7taylor2 жыл бұрын
I have only seen this if the back 3 teams has either played a 3-1-4-2 or a 3-4-1-2. Which are very interesting formations: you have 3 central midfielders to dominate the center of the pitch and keep the ball, plus you also have 2 central strikers. Which is very dangerous, with 3 CMs there are a lot of possible combinations to get one of them open. And with 2 strikers against 2 CBs, there is no margin of error for the defense, but you always need a little, especially against that many central attackers. Safest way to deal with it is get a spare man in the back against the 2 strikers and match them 3 v 3 in the middle. Voilá! You have to play 3-1-4-2/3-4-1-2 yourself, if the players are coached and trained to play in those formations.
@hiHi-cn3bn2 жыл бұрын
some times managers do use it to match other teams formation with the goal of maybe playing better man to man marking, eg 3 5 2 to match 4 3 3, two Strikers vs two centre backs, 3 v3 midfield and two wingers vs two full backs and three defenders vs opponent's front three.
@juv_3nal2 жыл бұрын
Typically when I have seen teams switch it is dependent not on the other team's setup in defence but their setup in attack. As I understand it (which could be wrong but I'mma lay it out anyways), it's usually about wanting to have a spare central defender versus the attackers. For example, against 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 you might want a back 4 bc you expect your fullbacks to cover the wider attackers giving you a 2 cbs in the middle versus one central striker, but against a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2, you may want a back 3 because then you expect your fullbacks to cover either midfield wingers or wingbacks meaning 3 cbs against 2 strikers in the middle again giving you a spare man in the central area.

Question: How do we tackle the VAR issue? Should referees who refuse to work with it be banned? Should we make it more time-efficient? Context: According to pundits and ex-referees in Poland who dedicate their time to analysing referees, Wisła had 6 points stolen by referee mistakes and Bruk-Bet had 4, relegating them both, while Zagłębie had been gifted 5 points, Stal 3, Płock 8 allowing them to stay up. Referees refused to even look at VAR in many cases and one made an unexplainable mistake cancelling a Wisła goal to make it 2:0 vs Lech which basically everyone in Poland agreed should've stood, leading to a last minute equaliser after stoppage time was made 7 minutes due to that VAR decision.

Penalties can be made fairer by simply getting rid of them and calling a direct free kick from the exact position the player is fouled. To make this work, the 10 yard minimum distance remains, so if the player is fouled within 10 yards from the goal, the wall will have to be behind the goal-line so is basically a penalty anyway, but the angle will vary. I have an idea about changing penalties. You can make it so that there are two places where you get to have a penalty, one in the standard location and another one farther out. So the standard distance is 12 yards out from goal. This new location would be 18 yards out from goal. The way you determine whether the penalty is taken from the 12 yard point or the 18 yard point depends on how close to goal the foul occurs. If the foul occurs from edge to 1/4 within the box, then you take the penalty at the 18 yard point. If the fouls occurs within 3/4 from the goal, then you use the 12 yard point. I hope that makes sense.

@misomiso82282 жыл бұрын
1. One other solution would be to COMBINE Ligue 1, the Bundesligue, the Austrian League, and the Czech League into one big 'Mega West European League'. With this option you would have a twenty team Combined League with three relegations each year, and one Promotion from each of the French and 'Combined Germany' Leagues with one other play off spot. Such a League would have both PSG and Bayern, and you would probably see that match become the equivelant of 'El Classico'. Could be a money maker. 2. The thing with the penalty box is that if you reduce the severity of the penalty by reducing the scoring %, then you make fouls more likely. This is not necessarily bad, but it does mean players will foul more as there is less of a cost to doing so.

What is your opinion on Mike Maignan? Do you think currently he is the best goalkeeper category alongside Alisson and Ederson?
@BigblueNF2 жыл бұрын
Throwing my vote in for the following: If the goalie commits the foul in the box, take a classic penalty. If the defending player commits a foul in the box AND receives a red card, classic penalty. In all other cases, take the penalty from where the foul occurred OR the coach may opt to take a corner kick instead.

I don’t mind penalties not being “fair”. I want to see more goals, not fewer, and I like that penalties often change the dynamic of the game, that makes football more interesting to watch too.

Question, why do teams act like being captain is so important? What do they actually have to do
@arkadye2 жыл бұрын
I think penalties should be balanced a little to the defending team. When first introduced the keeper stood on the six yard line and could rush the taker. I wouldn't go that far but I do think this could work: - Keeper starts on their line. - Once the taker starts their run up the keeper can leave the line. I'm not sure if we should limit how far the keeper can go (restrict them to the six yards box maybe?) or if it would be more fun to see penalties charged down if the taker tries to be too tricky with the run up.

Challenge for Alex Stewart - What is the most boring squad and tactic that you could draft to put on a realistic premier league title charge next season? The squad, management and football played needs to be drab and uninspiring but still able to snooze their way to the top of the league.

Fun fact: it’s always Bayern who advocate for policies to encourage more competition in the Bundesliga, but constantly got vetoed by other clubs; it’s the “plastic clubs” who are very well run and ambitious and provide excellent player development -Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Leverkusen etc, but they are the most despised in Germany.

Free kicks within the penalty box need to be used more. I do love the MLS penalty rule that was used back then. It was more realistic of a chance from open game than having an awkward standing start.

Seb says taking the penalty from where the foul occurred wouldn't work because of "angles" like if you were fouled next to the post. But wouldn't this just result in the penalty being a pass to a teammate sprinting into the box rather than a direct shot?* Yes, the defending team would try to intercept these passes by also sprinting in, but the attacking team would know when to time their runs in the same way that in rugby union the team taking the lineout knows when to lift their players and usually (not always) retain possession. The main benefit is that these indirect penalty set pieces with attackers and defenders sprinting into the box from all angles would look spectacular and that's what we want. Penalty goals are boring and we want something more beautiful. *They would have to change the rule to allow penalties to be passed backwards, but they might as well allow that.

7:45 Just a caution on game design here, a game that is statistically always fairer is often more boring as it increases predictability. One needs the possibility of sudden huge losses for entertainment. I'll accept that penalties are skewed towards helping big teams being more likely to get one and more likely to score but this is just a general caution against making the game statistically fair.

Very interesting how something that seems the core of the game penalties from 12 yards ,for a foul in an 18 yard area, actually seems flawed when you think about it. There's too many soft penalties these days, where an attacker initiates contact then collapses in a heap. I definitely like the idea of taking the penalty from where the foul occurred. Also, shrinking the penalty area, or perhaps making an arc on it. Though wouldn't an arc be difficult to tell whether inside or out compared to the current straight lines? Whatever, attackers continually diving for penalties is probably the biggest irritation in the game for me, these days.
