Tiger 800 xc Clutch friction plate change

Hi guys,
This is my guide video to changing the clutch friction plates on my 2013 Triumph Tiger 800xc.
I hope it helps out and at least gives you are starting point for changing out the clutch friction plates.
Torque wrench settings
3 x Allan key bolts holding on the clutch spindle protector, located on the clutch cover = 7NM
11 x Bolts holding on the clutch cover = 8NM
5 x spring bolts holding on the friction plate 10NM
Spacer thicknesses that can be purchased are 1.6mm and 2mm
Clutch pack thickness = 42.54 and 41.54mm
There are 9 friction plates and 8 spacers.

My 2013 800 XC has 62,000 miles and original clutch is working perfectly. I'm really curious to know why there are many premature dead clutches

Hey big thanks to u man. I was watching ur vidéo cus my clush doen't work anymore and I was searching for an howto vid'. In fact i didn't know about the two nuts down the cable allowing you to adjust the clutch. Thanks to you i didn't have to change frictions plates 😍😍 Tiger XC is roaring again 😀

Hi Cy I was watching this video few times due to the same job I have to do on my Tiger. It is very informative but you misses to show us the most important part. The final attachments of lever to the clutch shaft. This task is very difficult. I was told that this is 4 hand job. BTW the engineer who designed it should be hang! Please edit this video to include the final step. Road Hog

31k miles on my Tiger 1200 and the clutch is quite noisy now, was noisy when I got it at 18k miles but it’s gradually getting worse, no clutch slip at all so maybe not urgent? Still needs doing though, I’ve got the general jist of it now but the 1200 has a hydraulic clutch so I’m not sure how to ‘disconnect’ it?? Speaking of the hydraulic clutch ever since I got it serviced (1k miles ago) the clutch has been creaking, like it needs bleeding as well. I was going to take it back but I just never got the time and it’s too late now really, I couldn’t prove it was them

Would be useful to show the correct tightening order for pressure plate bolts and clutch cover bolts. Also links to where you got the parts.

9nm for the 28mm and 10nm for the 35mm

Please show how to hook the clutch lever arm to the pull-thingy when putting the cover back on. I am stumped!!! Please help!

Do you know if the 800 and 1200 use the same plates? Any recommendations where to buy Triumph parts? I am in Texas and my dealer quoted $950 to replace the clutch plates, so I need to learn and get my own parts.

Clarification: I have a Triumph Explorer and the clutch overheated while I was trying to get out sand. Seems like overheated plates are common, but my bike is new and only has 1700 miles on it.

3,000 miles? Friend of mine has a Tiger 800 with 80,000km, original clutch. I have 30,000km, clutch is still 100%, and I've put it through hell. I know a GS 1200 guy with 270,000km on his original clutch (no lie).

i always soak clutch plates over night in fresh oil ,not just smear them ...

do you have to drain the oil to do this ?

No you can get away with it, as the clutch is on the opposite side to the centre stand, so therefore the oil tends to go to the side stand side.
