Thank you so much for the in depth tour! Before you bought this RV, did you see it somewhere? How did you guys decide this was the best RV for you? I am planning on living in this full time, so the quality must be better than the usual RVs that people usually get (Jaycos and the like). Thank you so much for your videos, they've been immensely helpful.

My wife spotted this vehicle in a magazine article and thought it would work for what we wanted to do, which was go off grid and camp. We looked at one that someone owned near where we lived and took the plunge. ProVan industries in South Carolina hand build these onto the chassis make of your choice, as long as it's Dodge, Chevrolet or Ford. The quality is generally good, certainly better than most mainstream RV's but they are compact. We ended up selling ours when COVID started, back in 2020. My advice is see if you are interested, call the company and they might be able to find one near you that you can look at. Also, you can join the facebook group Tiger Adventure Vehicles which should give you more photos and info. You could also rent one for a week or two and see the pro's and con's before making the investment. Hope this helps.

@@rowanadventures renting one is an excellent idea, thank you! I will join the group. Would you buy one again after owning one? Also, what was the turnaround time for the conversion at the time? Thank you so much for your help btw, I really appreciate it.

@@aaabbhddgf To be honest, I probably would not buy one again, especially new. If you are a full-time camper, and can stay within a few hundred miles of the factory for the first couple of months (if you bought new) to help work out any issues that pop up, that would be optimum. Otherwise, I would buy used, but even then, expect that there may be some issues. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably look into the Black Series Off-Road trailers, pulled may a decent truck. You'll have more room, You'll have a bit more versatility in that you can unhook and drive somewhere like a normal person and not worry about parking etc. I've not seen one in person, but I like the idea better than the Tiger. So if your serious, look into it. It might be a better alternative. Just pay attention to weights in terms of what the truck can handle. I prefer Chevrolet because of the weight management and pulling power but everyones has their favorites. here's the link to the trailer I'm talking about: www.blackseries.net/travel-trailers/hq17.html

@@rowanadventures Thank you so much for your honesty and recommendation, I've never heard of this company before! I've never towed anything before, but you are right about the trade offs with being able to leave it at camp. I've heard a lot of RVers talk about that as well over the years. I also like Chevrolet trucks! I definitely have a lot of details to iron out before committing to anything. I am grateful to already have experienced life on the road (6 months in a Prius of all things!), compared to most people who haven't gotten their feet wet yet. I have been putting a lot of consideration into what I need and what would last as long as possible (with the least amount of headaches), and that's why I was looking into the Bengal line due to their reputation. There are others out there from what I've seen on the road. I guess I should be looking more into the overlanding community and will definitely be looking at the alternatives before jumping in, so thank you for that link!! By the way, are you two still living full time on the road, or did you go back to a home base due to the pandemic? I hope you are both doing well. Thanks again. **that turtleback looks sick!!! It'd be perfect for my kayak and other recreational equipment that I'd otherwise probably have to give up lol

I just started building my Dodge short bed 4x4 into an off grid, and thanks to your videos I have been able to reconfigure the space for optimum use. I even have room now for an indoor shower! Originally I had the standard front cab but now I adding more sheet metal for fridge and freezer with pantries under each one. Having only a six foot bed I had to be creative. Really unique vehicles!

Just stumbled onto your channel after some early planning for the next rig of ours. Tiger is the top contender right now. Appreciate your thoroughness in these walk-arounds. If you didn't have the Turtleback, I'm curious what you would change in the build of the Tiger? Would you add a microwave or oven? Anything else you'd change if it was just the coach?
@rowanadventures6 жыл бұрын
The thought process we had at the time we first started was that since we would be doing this full time, we wanted to extend our water supply, our storage and have the ability to cook outside so that we wouldn't be filling the inside of the tiger with cooking smoke or grease. Even though the tiger had an optional kitchen fan, we know from experience that you still can't always get rid of the smoke, smell or grease. Okay, now that we've been on the road for almost 9 months straight, all of the reasons that we have the turtleback are coming true. Sometimes it's been difficult to find fresh water. Having 40 extra gallons in the Turtleback trailer really lets us extend. Being able to cook outside and wash dishes in a larger sink. We also like the extra storage for extra clothes, shoes, tools and the like. What would we change about the Tiger? We would not have put in the shower inside. We have two outside showers that work great (if you could find some privacy, though I am working on an outside curtain design). Still don't have a desire for a microwave though if we were only doing this full time, I might. Solar is the biggest deal right now. I have 3-100 watt panels and 4 batteries and still have a hard time keeping batteries at 100% at the end of the day. Both Fridge and Freezer are 12 volts and when it's hot, they can draw a lot of juice. So if possible, I would add one more panel OR higher wattage panels. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

I'm puzzled on the lower bed conversion, does the table get in the way of the bathroom door? Or is it just in the way to move around? That said, I'm looking forward to big bend. I live in Texas
@rowanadventures6 жыл бұрын
It is a pedestal style table, the mount is situated on the floor between the couch and the kitchen counter. Though it's possible to get to the bathroom (and open the bathroom door) it is a bit awkward. Also, the table cannot be in place if you open the couch as it folds out toward the counter. We have learned to get along without the table and it's totally fine. We carry a folding table in our Turtleback trailer and use it to eat outside so it's not like we never eat at a table, just not inside. If you have not seen the first edition of our Big Bend trip, here it is (part one kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYjbioeFhM6nqM0

Good tour of the interior. Any comments on the AC? How much heat is put off from your freezer in the crew cab, while you are traveling?
@rowanadventures4 жыл бұрын
Great questions and thanks for watching. First, the AC works well though to be honest, I had hoped that it would de-humidify more than it does. If you are in dry heat, it works great. Cools down the coach well. A bit noisy at night but it's the kind of noise you can't used to for a few nights when you're trying to sleep. We returned back east the year before last and it was really hot and humid. I could cool down the coach fairly well, but it was still sticky. Honestly, the way I got around it was to open all the windows, run the furnace which would dry out the coach. Close the windows and shut off the furnace. Then, turn the AC on. Humidity problem solved. A bit unconventional, but it worked. Freezer: I don't find that it heats the cab that much though you have to be careful that you don't lean something up against where the fan vent is. Other than that, not much heat at all. The only down fall is that it is our greatest energy consumer, though not by much. But just enough where if I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with bigger solar panels on the roof, though the new Zamp connector works wonders.

I do. There are some very small things I would change, but we think we did it right. There is absolutely nothing about the truck part I would change. Love the diesel, exhaust brake, the ride, great chassis. As for the coach there are a few things we would change. Mattress, and a few other odds and ends but nothing major. Might be for sale soon.

did i miss hearing about what looks like an air conditioner in the ceiling?
@rowanadventures5 жыл бұрын
No you didn't miss it. I forgot it and I did not cover it. It is a somewhat standard Coleman RV AC/Fan/Heat unit. AC has a "low" and "hi" setting and a separate knob for thermostat control. You can use it for heat as well though we never do. And of course, there is a fresh air fan/vent that you can put on for outside air. All in all it works fine though we only use it maybe 4-5 times a year since we try and follow weather that isn't too hot. Thanks for watching!
