I'm a guyanese living abroad and was very surprise and learned of that part of georgetown, where I personally grew up was in a stellar and rich environment, and to see such desperate conditions and poverty exit in my own backyard was a complete utter shock beyond belief. I pray and hope that one day in my life I can return with some help for the poor and destitute. Thank you for bringing this to light.

Oh my Guyanese people....smh. I have never watched a video about guyana that touched me more than this one.... I was the child swimming in the trenches. Beating a tire down the street with a stick. Playing with other children wearing nothing but underwear. Taking a shower outside as my mother washed me in front of everyone. I came to the states at 5 and I'm now 45. But this video jolted memories I have clearly forgotten about. Stories my parents told me that seemed so far fetched it couldn't be true. Like having the back seat of a mini as a couch. A crate and a glass top as a table. And a box as my crib. I'm ashamed of all I have accomplished. Ashamed that after my fathers death I now surf youtube to hear the stories of poverty he once told that I couldn't believe. Now I know the importance of those barrels sent home to my parents family. Why my clothes and toys as soon as I grew out of them were packed and shipped away. My people are so humble. So spiritual. So content with not asking for the world but just a little help, education, and knowledge to make a better life. I have probably spent enough money on cars, motorcycles, clothes, jewelry, restaurants, and unnecessary luxuries to take care of 10 poor guyanese families. You are far from beggars. You are willing to work hard for a better life but the opportunities are scarce. I am compelled to do more. No damn programs that steal the money before they even reach you. But in 2019. Surely there must be a more direct way to send our blessings directly! Guyanese Americans have tons and tons of money. Most of us are business owners. Now I see where my hustle mentality comes from. Where my entrepreneurial spirit comes from. Why I'm never satisfies and push myself harder everyday towards success. Subconsciously I know where I come from and I know my people are survivors. You guys are amazing. Not one tear, besides the daughter hurt by her mothers travesties. You have nothing. But you carry hearts filled with love and hope and a face made of stone to hide your true emotions. Wow....this was an amazing documentary. And I'm motivated to do more. Myself. Directly. I'm a very very smart man. And I'll figure out a way to give back to my people. Thank you so much for sharing your stories, and thank you for making me realize I take alot for granted and I need to do more!! Love you all. Your community stretches far beyond the borders of that country. We are worldwide and we all need to collectively do more. Stop the division amongst us and help these kids get educated to kick those old corrupt politicians out! You should all be ashamed. ...

Been many years ago I was there, when Guyana went bankrupt if the old timers remember that. Coming back again this year in about 8 months to see my tribal chief friend on the border of Brazil and my friends in East Coast Demerera. Guyana is DANGEROUS. But, it's one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

They talk about struggle but the women have numerous children although contraceptives are free.As a result they cannot go out and work to contribute to the household and to get out of there.They prefer a life of crime. I heard of this place but nobody from outside wants to go there because they are afraid for their lives and limbs and their valuables.

My uncle was one of the greatest people who ever lived in Guyana, but unfortunately he has been forgotten. Reverent Graham S. Clark founded Guardian Angel Catholic Church in New Amsterdam and gave everything he has to the poorest Guyanese people for 35 years until his death by head on collision in 1996. Rev. Clark worked with Scarborough Missions out of Toronto and remained even after they insisted he leave the country and retire. He opened a clinic in New Amsterdam after hounding the president every day for months until he finally caved in and released some funds for 10 bed facility. My Uncle came from a wealthy family, but sacrificed everything he had for Guyana, and he saved countless thousands of the poorest people, often giving away his own meal. I hope to visit your country in his honor and possibly help this desperately poor country. God will help us all if we have faith.

Leaders need to look at these videos that reveal the suffering of Guyanese. If they continue to surround themselves with prosperity and try to convince themselves that they are doing a good job, they become immune to the troubles that Guyanese face everyday. Watching this video should motivate them to do their job better. You cannot be satisfied with your job until everyone lives a happy life. Heartbreaking to look at this. Don't ignore the man who said his life of poverty influenced his decision to rob and steal. Poverty is the root cause of crime.

One of the ways to help these folks,is fot the Government to locate some lands and give each family a certain amount to work,so they can plant vegetables and other things that they can eat and also sell to.the commuties outside-but where there's no vision as God has said,the people perish!
