I rented this several times back when I was a kid, probably due to the great box art. I never got far in it at all. As for the arcade game, it's definitely better, being an early Toaplan shooter, but it's not much to write home about overall. At least not now The slowdown you mentioned is common with NES ports developed by Micronics, who also did the ports of 1942, Ghosts n Goblins, Ikari Warriors, and Athena amongst others. They never seemed to "get" the programming to make really solid ports.

I personally prefer two red little helis, pretty much my preferred solution to deal with those pesky tanks that shows up on the side-edge of the map. Though that would made these poor little helis more vertically challenged. Poor them, plenty of them were shot down just because no such thing as speed power-up existed in this game.

You're right. If you get hit from the side your bombs will take the hit for you. Also, you can't upgrade your own shots, and this game has no ending. So, it doesn't really need continues in the long run.
