You missed that one of his husbands left him for a girl and the other one shot himself while high. He got a new, younger husband within 3 months or so and this time the man might actually be gay and not just hang around Joe to get drugs. The whole "gay for pay" thing with his "husbands", both of whom he met when they were in their late teens, was one of the more upsetting parts of the documentary.
