LOL. The guy in the flowery shirt with sunglases at 0::32 is the lead vocalist of the local underground punk band, The CB Dogs. He was in Chinatown shooting a video for their upcoming album launch gig. He's definitely trolling the interviewer hahaha

From a guy who started from the bottom about 15 years ago, just grab any damn job first. Money will soon follow you. Not trying to be condescending but it is just real life experience that I would like to share. Everyone has ideals but ideals not gonna pay the bills and feed you. Once you get your money stream , then your ideals come in play .

Not from uni. But correct. First job just anyhow grab. Don't like just keep changing until you find something comfortable to settle in. Save up some money for a few years then go chase your dreams.

I still remember back in 2010 when I have just graduated from polytechnic, whatever we need to know as a Game Programmer or Software Engineer has already been taught to a deep extent. But we don't get any good pay or a placement because the lack of a Computer Science Degree. Fast forward after NS, went to NUS, basically slept in class, resubmitting whatever I have done at Poly, trust me other than the standard academic subjects (Science, maths etc) JC students don't even come close and we had a 1st class honor team member (JC) who can't code for god sake in Computer Science at Year 3. Fast forward to a few years back, I went back to polytechnic as a career, only to found out that the content taught to students has drastically reduced to the point that they are non-functional even after graduation. The reason: Feedback say they taught too much depth and repeated in University and they want to reduce that. But like duh that's what exemptions are for. So what I saw over the years was simply: Poly students are too strong in University -> High level of graduates -> We need to balance -> Therefore make poly students lousier -> Harder to enter Uni -> Lower graduation rate. And now they tell people that you don't need a University degree for your credentials but in reality because the pre-Uni levels standards have been lowered, how can you secure a job (as in stay without getting fired) without a degree.

Poly students are academically much weaker ... But excel in practical ...
@Magurosenbei
@Magurosenbei Күн бұрын
@kimchiba4570 Not exactly true. For example, when you come from a games background, you already know 3D mathematics, matrices, discrete mathematics, gravity physics, dynamic physics, lightning emulation via diffuse, specular, ray tracing etc. But guess what you are only tested on H2 maths and physics which barely covers all these until say Lv2000 maths physics modules which are non compulsory unlike lv 1000 modules. For JC, they are just repeating or simply revision of their A level stuff until lv 2000 and above. Back in the days, there was a need to take about 10 of such compulsory academic modules that were more or less useless in reality.

Honestly speaking, a degree and experience alone isn't enough these days. Employers will hire an acquaintance, family and friends before a student fresh off school.

Even if you graduate from NUS not all will fare well. You have to be confident in your jobs and be in the right job. Experience is important. Dont just go for high pay. when you dont have experience. Most jobs are on the job training anyway. You learn from experience .Who will pay you highly if you are learninhg on the job.

i’m really glad i went through poly because that prepared me for the working world , compared to university where they tried to teach us how to prepare for interviews and pitching, but it feels very inadequate and rushed in comparison to what i learnt in poly. If i hadn’t went to poly, i think i would struggle in the basics of how to prepare for a job interview or even create a resume.

Where in the world the 1% came from? ...35 years ago about 20% of each cohort made it to NUS and NTU..today about 40% made it to the 5 unis....nus was never 1 percentile...only the medical faculty of the 2 universities or the law faculty of the 3 unis are 1 percentile.

TO add on.. Having a NUS degree is not a biggie. We have a huge influx of foreigner talents with degrees much more preferred by some employers. Degree is just a stepping stone and a piece of paper. Moral of this story, top 20% is not a guarantee win. We should not discriminate on the bottom 20%. Most important is your attitude, your desire to learn and lastly good people skill to go far.
@Claudia-cy6ou
@Claudia-cy6ou 2 күн бұрын
@@marktay9752 of course! Not talking about this. I’m just saying the way he talks he doesn’t sound educated. He may be successful with some vape selling business somewhere. Btw most NUS kids aren’t that smart either, I’ve many classmates who are really not that intelligent. But those that are intelligent will definitely be in the school too. I’m not talking about success, purely saying the way he speaks > not good with studies > idk how he got in. You can actually tell if someone is smart or not just by talking to them. It’s a fact
