I did basic and Infantry AIT at Fort Polk in 1971. By that time Tigerland was Peason Ridge. I was a squad leader in AIT having gone to the Fort Polk Academy before going to AIT. Growing up we used to play Army in vacant lots in our neighborhood and dig trenches and foxholes ect. While at Peason Ridge it occurred to me that we were doing some of the things we did as kids. Guess we were being conditioned.

Fort Polk 1965 to 1967. Drafted in Los Angeles and spent my tour of duty in Tiger Land as a SP5 Personnel Specialist in the AG, Did lots of out processing; port calls and morning report extracts for AWOLs. Worked in Building 317. Company A Special Troops.

Hello, this is Anthony. My father retired in 1966 at Ft Polk. He was a drill instructor and an instructor at Tiger Land. His specialty was Jungle Infantry so we lived off post over in New Llano before you get to Leesville as you left the post. Was not able to find out much about Tiger Land prior to finding your video. As for me I went into the USMC in 1976 in Motor T. Joined the Army in 1981 Arctic Infantry. Did para military with Navy for 3 years 2001 to 2004. THANKS FOR SHARING THE VIDEO! God bless you.

My two Senior NCOs in the Persian Gulf War were Vietnam Veterans; SFC Schaefer Jungle Warfare Expert from Arkansas & SFC Rangel Urban Warfare Expert from Texas. Did the military have any additional "Tigerland" sites besides Ft Polk ? How prevalent were wargames in the actual environment In places like Korea or Thailand VS those held in stateside mockups ?

The United States' military started jungle warfare training in Panama in 1916. This was used extensively during WWII with preparing the US Marines to fight in the jungles of the South Pacific. In 1953, the US Army created the Jungle Operations Training Center (JOTC) at Fort Sherman, Panama. A lot of men who were going to be sent to Vietnam during the early 1960s were sent there to do jungle warfare training before Tigerland was opened in 1966.
