One of the most noticeable changes LIV Golf has brought is a more relaxed approach to attire, allowing players to sport shorts during events. This is a stark departure from the strict dress codes of other prestigious tournaments like the upcoming US World Senior Open, where trousers remain mandatory. The shift has been particularly noteworthy for LIV Golf's Lee Westwood, who has expressed a preference for the more casual dress standards.
As Westwood prepared for the tournament, he was asked about returning to the traditional four-round format. Interestingly, his concern wasn’t about the endurance needed for 72 holes but rather about wearing trousers. "I believe I can handle the 72 holes," remarked Westwood, currently tied for 16th after the initial rounds. "What troubles me more is having to play in trousers. The 72 holes themselves aren’t the issue. It’s looking down and seeing my legs covered. I much prefer having my legs free."
Westwood also noted the widespread preference for shorts among his fellow players, especially in warmer weather. "You'll notice that many of the guys opt for shorts during practice. It's clear how much more comfortable they feel, especially when the temperature rises, by wearing shorts."
Tiger Woods, who has advocated for relaxed attire since 2018, would likely support these sentiments. He once stated, "I would be in favor of it. We compete in some of the hottest climates globally."

Why shouldn't shorts be allowed? There are very elegant shorts out there. A lot of amateurs play in shorts, so people are quite used to seeing this. Today's golf is a power game compared to before and it's important to let the players have free movement as the play. The show will always be better if the players can perform to their best.

Certainly support both the wearing of shorts during play as well as shotgun starts. Regarding shotgun starts, perhaps then, some of the terrible slow play won’t be as noticeable!
