Mohr always seemed like a fun and chill dude, but he sounds like a dick to work for/with and that's shitty of him to steal Bert's story and claim it as his own. Then there's Mencia, who is basically blacklisted and completely despised because his stealing of jokes was pretty egregious, but he treated Bobby super well and was a totally cool guy to work for/with. FWIW regarding Mencia's thievery: Shaffir's claim to the joke, "you can't ban Mexicans because who's going to build the wall?" was bullshit; it was an obvious-as-fuck joke that literally everyone thought up. The Cosby steal, though, was obviously ripping off Cosby's bit because it was like textbook plagiarism; they only replaces one or two words. Instead of Cosby's receiver, it was a quarterback.

I can only imagine what Bobby had to go through working for someone that obviously crazy and egotistical. Glad he had a career after all that. Seriously, though, the real a-hole in that situation (outside of Menstealia, natch) is that producer. If Bobby told him "don't air that" as he says he did, then don't air it, you unethical bastard. We all have back hallway gossip, throwing that into the open was throwing Bobby squarely under the bus and using him as cannon fodder in Joe's ongoing war with Ned. for me, being an alcoholic for a long time....the only time I have gotten help that worked was when my family wasn't mad, wasn't hurt...they weren't disappointed..... it was when they started to feel bad for me. it was when they 'understood' and just stopped fighting and accepted my alocholism, I realized that they weren't filled with hatred but love. they weren't hurt and filled with anger... they were filled with worry about me and pity for me. it motivated me to change and I've gone a year at a time without a drink. I cant say I dont drink but, as an example, I'm having one tall boy.....not the case of beer and a 5th of 151 in order to 'be normal'. now that its not a big deal with them.... just them hurting for me.... I have nothing but motivation to change my life and have reduced my drinking, slowly and the proper way, while increasing my work ethic so I can be back to the man I used to be.

To me it probably seems like he had nothing to his name and Carlos he helped him out and took him to travel outside the country. He met his family and I’m sure they had friend hangouts talking about how great Bobby’s future was going to look. But imagine that scenario ending with “Bobby make sure you book my flight I like to have a Coke zero in my seat.” “Bobby I’m preforming at the comedy store do you have any bits I can use. “ (these are made up examples btw) That changes the relationship and it could be not what Bobby signed up for. However because he had no other alternative before and felt he owed Mencia he kept going. That type of treatment from a “friend” increases to the point where you’re like OK I’m gonna be your employee I deserve employee rights.

Bert is such a revisionist. I've heard him on Jay Mohr's show, in the early podcasts, admit to Jay that he gave him the Tracy Morgan bit!!!! Offered it up to Jay because Bert could not do the Tracy Morgan voice that was pivotal to the joke. The problem was that the whole joke hinged on the very last line, "And that's how you get out paying for the check, Jay Mohrs!!!" I think Bert was influenced by Rogan into thinking that Jay had stolen his bit and created a wedge between these longtime friends. Jay apologized, confessed to something that was not his fault. The only thing, Jay admits, is that he should have said, "This is a Bert Kresicher bit", but he couldn't say that before the joke, because the punchline is crucial to the humor, and it needed to be in the narrator's first person voice. Jay has talked about this over and over again. IT WAS NOT STEALING!!!! Bert gave him the joke! Instead, Bert, goes along with Joe Rogan's witchhunt to ferret all known joke thieves and lumps Jay Mohr with Mencia. Listen to Jay Mohr's Bert Kreischer podcast (still available) and he talks about the situation and explains everything. It's not cut and dried. AND KREISCHER ADMITS TO GIVING HIM THE JOKE!!! This broke Jay's heart. Bert broke up a twenty year friendship because Rogan was so adamant about calling Jay a cheater. I think Rogan is shit for never making this right.

@goombamike49 Bert acted like a pussy letting them push him in that direction. He should have stood his ground, and told them it was what it was, and he was cool with it. Years ago I remember a joke that I heard Mohr and another comic do about why do we feel ok about using a bar of soap that everyone in your house has used in their ass and other nether regions. Mohr told it like a week after the first comic. I always wondered who stole who's bit or did they both but it from the same comedy writer.
@BFSilenceDogood4 жыл бұрын
Well put. I totally agree with what you said. Unless there's something else no one is talking about, Jay should be vindicated.
@SethMcFartlane3 жыл бұрын
What horseshit. Mohr was on O&A. He wasn't on stage. He was telling the story to _other_ comics. All he had to do is give credit and he didn't, in fact he specifically said it happened to him with zero clarification afterward. Are we supposed to believe the joke is some fucking sacred cow that must never be besmirched? The punchline is "and that's how you get out of paying for the check" the Jay Mohrs addition is frivilious.
@goombamike49443 жыл бұрын
@@SethMcFartlane I heard it on Mohr's podcast...I never listened to O&A until much later. My point is that he showed contrition many times to Bert Kreisher and Kreisher AGREED that he gave him the joke! You're point is right that the addition is frivilous, but he utilized Morgan's familiar emphasis of his name which made the joke sound legitimate. What made me upset is that Rogan fomented the break of two friends over a joke...it should have ended amicably.

Bert is exactly right, drinkers always publicly underestimate how much they consume because they feel ashamed to admit the true number to people they feel will judge them. However much a drinker says they consume, easily multiply that x3 or x4 to get a more realistic number. For example, if they say "I like to have a couple" that means 6-8 standard drink servings per session. "A few" means 10-12 per session, etc.
@brianroyster75102 жыл бұрын
I was once asked by my MD how much alcohol I consume weekly to which I gave a completely dead honest answer. He gave me a wide-eyed stare for a moment then said let's put down this. I never cared much for Mencia's act, but I will say this: Show me 10 minutes of any stand up today and I'll find something in their act that could be labeled as "stolen". Mencia was huge back then and comics are the first to admit jealousy. Everyone ganged up on him and put him under a microscope with Rogan leading the charge. Then, when one of them was called out, we always hear the stock excuse: "Oh well, he "borrowed that", but he "made it his own". How is it that the others can make it their own, but Mencia doesn't qualify? I like Rogan's podcast, but he should be aware that so many factors go into such a situation, He's always studying and learning about psychology and getting to the root of things on his podcast. What he fails to see is that nothing is infinite. Not music, lyrics, movies, or comedy. Sooner or later you're going to overlap with someone else and most of the time, it's unintentional. Maybe you don't realize you heard a bit 2 years ago playing in the background while you were doing something else. You think it's original, but it's not. This is especially true today because there are literally thousands of comics in the US alone. You don't think they aren't crossing into each others stuff? I can't bash Mencia because he could have been "making bits his own", or thinking something was original and just not remembering hearing it before. He could also very well be point blank stealing, but knowing there are variables involved, I can't judge and hang him.
