Thanks, I picked that up when I saw it. I have also made one with just a groove to a point for those tiers that are not used to having a sharpened tool in their hand. It takes a little aim but the groove will not cut people only thread. All the best, and thanks for sharing. Sean

Great idea. I hand whip finish my flies but I use a similar tool to cut my thread. I prefer this approach to using scissors because it cuts only the thread that is held under tension. I don't have to worry about accidentally clipping hackle fibers or other materials; they just deflect out of the way.

The end of my whip finish tool tapers to a cone with a hollow end that doubles as a half hitch tool when needed. Works well on all the hooks I use and is an alternate to the traditional whip when only one hitch is needed.

The belt leather can be glued to a paint stirring stick rough side out to create a small strop for sharpening blades, a little valve grinding compound can be added for grit to hasten sharpening. I use that type of leather strop to maintain my wood carving knives razor sharp.
