Although similar, I prefer Mike Lawson's Caddis Emerger pattern. This one is fine, but the zelon material is far too coarse and lacks the sparkle compared to the original antron materials Gary Lafontaine adopted early in his caddis development. Mike added small copper or gold wire to help keep the fly further down in the film, and instead of the HE dubbing "thorax", he adds a fur or herl head immediately after the body, underwing, and feather overwing.

I have a trip to the Kennebec planned in late May, early June, and I've already been tying these in grey with a dark brown SLF head; instead of touch dubbing I've been making dubbing loops to makes the heads, but same effect really, just a different method. They look amazing, and boy are they a quick tie! I can't wait to try them out!

Man I just tried this touch dubbing method and it's awesome! I always had a hard time getting my hares ear nymphs to look real buggy but this method makes them look great. IMO the buggier the better. Thank you.

Good all around. You can of course modify the color of the abdomen dubbing and the hair's mask thorax dubbing to better match the pattern to naturals.

Why does it keep happening to me that the thread I use Extreme Standard 8/0 6/0 when tying the music constantly breaks, some say it's up to the bomb, others say it's up to the end, can you help me with that?

Nice pattern, Tim. Can you better describe "bunch" partridge for wing. Is it simply pinch together or fold? Also, have you used split thread method rather than touch dub?
@tightlinevideo10 жыл бұрын
The wing is just a bundle of partridge feather fibers just brought together, not folded or tented or anything. The split thread method will work, but touch dubbing results in a slightly different appearance and combined with the sticky wax used, helps with floatation. Once you get used to touch dubbing, which takes practice, it's also a bit faster. I avoided doing it for a long time, but am very glad I learned.

tightlinevideo Thank you. Have you tried adding an egg sac to this pattern? JF

can you use mallard for the wing?
@tightlinevideo11 жыл бұрын
You can, but it won't have the really nice mottled look of the partridge which imitates many species of caddis.

OK
