Emmy, my grandmother showed me how to make the white bread and glue dough when I was a little girl. We used the recipe to make decorative roses and I brought one to each of my teachers at school. They were all very thankful and impressed that we were able to create such delicate looking flowers from just two simple ingredients and my art teacher even had our class try it out. I would be ecstatic to see a future video using this recipe as it would be a great homage to my grandmother.

Our family has been making these cookies for years. We modified it by adding pecan meal at times! I love it that you are giving Amy a nod. I was one of her newsletter subscribers. I kept her newsletters in a 3 ring binder. We raised our kids, who have their own families, using Amy as a mentor. This video joins one of my top favorite KZbin Channels with my favorite frugal mentor. I actually found your channel because of your review of Clara’s depression era cooking!

The Tightwad Gazette was good at pointing out when to be cheap and do things yourself, and when to just buy stuff at a store because there was no savings in time or money. For example, it said not to waste time growing carrots because they were cheaper at the grocery store. I think the author lived in rural Maine, so she could grow stuff and didn't have the big city expenses of most people.

She had lost alot of weight & was losing fur. I couldn't let her suffer anymore. I hoped it was a dental issue but it was cancer. Poor baby. RIP Ear. She had a broken ear. I miss her so bad. I'm sorry about your baby. Same thing happened to my 23 yr old cat last yr. She had always been a healthy energetic cat until then,She was a trooper who fought to the end. Her cancer was in her nasal passage, and the top of her mouth. It finally bust open at the end and her face swole up along with her eye. It was horrible! I got a glimpse of what it looked like before she died and it was like raw hamburger . They wanted 10,000 to remove it/ chemo, radiation. Which I would have done except they told me she still would only have a 25 percent chance for survival for maybe 2 more yrs. She's buried under a tree next to her siblings. She was the best girl. Rip Pretty Girl and Ear. I pray that God gives us a chance to see them in heaven. I'm praying for peace and comfort for you in this time. Just know Beth you gave her love, comfort, peace, and stability that she wouldn't have known if not for you. She died loved, and that's worth it's weight in gold anyday!

This is why I love cookbooks! I collect vintage cookbooks and one's I get second hand. People think they're just for cooking but they are so much more! I have so many tips, tricks, money saving ideas, household hacks, cooking hacks, like how to be 100% sustainable and make homemade anything even almond milk/tofu/fro-yo and more! Even arts, crafts, party tips, table setting tips, cooking for 100 people/how to calculate how much you need, measurement conversions, meat temperature/cut guide, grain/vegetable cooking guides, diet tips/calorie counter/plans and even non-food related recipes. Like ones for homemade cleaning solution, stain removal and more! Tons for kids art projects, cutout paper crafs, science/food experiments, homemade puffy paint, slime, play-doh made from glue, flour and even edible peanut butter! It's amazing what you can do with cookbooks! I've learned so much, totally worth buying in my opinion!

That God that I'm in a semi rural, semi suburban area, close to the south coast of Ireland. Basically, I'm 20-30 minute drive to the nearest small city, 5 minutes drive down to my local small town, but with all the benefits of being in the countryside. It's a perfect balance of urban and rural living benefits. This way, going for a walk, we don't have to wear masks, because it's rural enough to stay a lot further then 2 meters (6 feet) away from everyone you pass by at all times. Plus, we have perfect summer, not too hot or cold weather right now, with occasional rain to keep everything green, so it's absolutely wonderful, thank God. In contrast, I just saw a message from an online friend of mine in Florida USA, a tornado came within a mile of her house. Thank God her, her family, and neighbour hood are OK. Hope you all are doing well out there wherever you are on this planet of ours. ☺💚👍💓💜💛💕💗💞💝💖🐇🐰🐓🐔🐕🐶🐩🐈🐱🐀🐁🐭🐹🐢🐣🐤🐥🐦🐏🐑🐐🐺🐃🐂🐄🐮🐴🐗🐖🐷🐸🐼🐧🐨🐒🐵🐆🐯🐻🐫🐪🐳🐋🐟🐠🐡🐙🐚🐊🐬🐌🐛🐜🐝🐞🐾

My mom had this book! I have a copy on my shelf too. My favorite recipe of hers is the 'universal muffin' recipe. It's a great way to turn leftovers into a kid-friendly snack. I've used leftover smoothies, apple sauce, bits of fresh fruit, leftover oatmeal, etc following that formula.

I never got the newsletters but discovered her book when I was a young mom with kids! I couldn't buy it at the time but checked it out of the library constantly. I now own one and plan to give it to my daughter who has young children.

I grew up with my mother keeping a bag in the freezer for bread heels to make stuffing. She also saved the stick butter wrappers to grease cake tins! I've raised non-fussy children and we eat the ends of bread, actually fighting over the fresh home baked ones!

Love your Cuisinart! My mom had this one for years (since the 80-90s). In the end, we used an ice pick to slide into the mechanism and press down to make it start. Still better than the new one she got in the 2010s!

Amy turned me on to the simple pleasures of dumpster diving. I sold my finds at yard sales to supplement my husband’s salary (1996, salary of 22,000 for family of four). My husband upgraded to a much(!) higher-paying job in 2008, and I went back to PT work when the kids went on to high school/ college, but I was deeply in the habit of being frugal. We are now 55 and 60, have no debt, and are able to give even more to the charities/organizations we’ve always supported.

C is for Cookie ah ah ah! I added the Count laugh because I heard it in my head, the way you kept hearing Barbara Streisand. My Cuisinart was used too!! Bought at a country auction for one single DOLLAR! In the box, with attachments and directions, I believe it’s from 2004?? Hurrah for tightwads everywhere! You’re just digging in and so far so good!! The crop job wasn’t THAT bad! Being a giant pig I’m going to maybe pass on this recipe (I also like crusts..) but I’m thinking the glue and bread modeling compound is going to happen. I don’t do every project you make but I’ve certainly incorporated some things! As usual THANK YOU!! 🙏🏻

This could not have come at a better time 😅 I am doing my Biology Lab homework and its basically cross examining a huge populous of people for food poisoning and what was statistically most likely to have given people what type of poisoning (I think it was salmonella but we're not done yet...) ANYWAY. My brain is melting out of my ears and this helped so much ❤ Thanks Emmy!

Bread dough was quite popular growing up. I think it was on “The Home Show.” It’s smooth and white and sets up well. I was born in 1984, grew up in a rural community. I remember making it as recently as 2007.

It is easy to use that bread dough for Christmas ornaments, after baking paint with the holiday colors. The dough is easy to work with cookie cutters. They last for years. I think it is possible to use the bread crumbs also as dry ones. I do not eat much white bread and always slice the bread in slices and dry it to crackers in a toaster oven. I think those could be also ground to coarse meal and used in cookies, just add some extra milk for moisture. You also gave me an idea to try to use leftover rye bread as a base for rye crackers, ground the dark bread crumbs to a fine meal, add eggs, flour, some spices like cumin and garlic powder and bake in thin crackers, pierced with a fork. I live alone most of the time so ready bought bread loaf lasts a long time and I do not like old bread so I either freeze the sliced bread or toast dry to last without molding. I was born 10`years after WWII and my parents told me about the food shortages during the war. Hence I learnt never to throw food away but create something new from the leftovers.
