Skip the Sapa main town. Mark these places if you planning to go to Northwest Vietnam. 1. Tả Văn + Tả Phìn - Sapa town. 20-30km away from Sapa town 2. Mai Châu Valley 3. Mộc Châu Central highland + Pha Luông village at the border of Laos/Vietnam 4. Tà Xùa dinosaur spine - Bắc Yên - Sơn La province 5. Mù Cang Chải rice terrace - Yên Bái province 6. Than Uyên Lake - Lai Châu Province 7. Y Tý village - Lào Cai province 8. Tú Lệ + Nghia Lo area - Yên Bái province 9. Pu Luong national park - Thanh Hoa province 10. Driving through the best mountain pass in Vietnam (along with Ma Pi Leng pass in Ha Giang): Ô Quy Hồ Pass (Sapa) + Khau Phạ pass (Mu Cang Chai) + Pha Bin pass (Dien Bien Phu)

When I did the route, we found one of my favorite roads going north out of Lao Bao and rode right into a wind farm in the mountains.

Phong Nha was definitely a big trip highlight for me and Mai Chau and the North are so beautiful. I am always wondering when I can go back to explore more of the north. Hopefully soon. Any more videos focusing on the North Vietnam routes would be welcomed! Another benefit of sticking to the mountain roads and avoiding the coast is you have much better access to the many beautiful waterfalls.

Thanks for the amazing tips! I actually have some questions and I think you are the best person that can answer. I'll do Ha Giang loop for 4 days in March. This will be my first motorbike ride and I'll do with a tour. I'll ride Honda 100cc. My questions: 1. Is it easy for a newbie to ride that bike in Ha Giang? 2. How is the weather in Ha Giang loop in March? 3. I have a DJI Action 4 and would like to shoot while riding. What would be the accessory to shoot while riding Honda 110cc? I have a curve adhesive mounting so maybe I can mount the camera to the helmet but do you think I need another accessory like a neck accessory or sth to mount to the bike? I saw in your other videos that you use action cameras too so I wonder your opinion. Thanks in advance!

I'd like to thank you for the hire of an XR 150 in February. The bike is the perfect bike for Vietnam and didn't miss a beat. I rode your recommended route to Zinman and onto Ha Giang and it as an awesome detour to include. Many thanks for all your advice.

This is great advice. I hope lots of people see it before their Vietnam trip. I followed this exact route from HCMC to Hanoi except that I did take the remote Truong Son Dong Road from Cam Ranh via Ayun Pa and Mang Den through the centre. Well worth it as much more pleasant riding. My only other suggestion would be to combine the Ha Giang loop with the Northeast in one big loop as the roads linking the two are a highlight.

Laos and Cambodia are still possible. Getting back into Vietnam appears to be a bit random. Although we haven't seen any issues for a few months now.

Hi ! Now, that you can only apply for a Vietnam e-visa online & they require you to specify Your port of entry: When I return to Vietnam with motorbike from Cambodia / Laos (land border), is it mandatory to return from the border that you indicated on the e-visa form ? Do they check it ? Or is it possible to return from any land border you want with the motorbike , as lons as you have the e-visa approved ?

Hello, I'm planning to do a motorcycle-camping adventure from north to south. In detail - I would like to camp one day somewhere remote near a lake or high in the mountains and the next day reach a city and clean myself and then stock up for the next day which will be camping. I believe it's doable and with the right gear and precautions - it will be the coolest thing I've ever done. Any insights you have on that adventure?

Few questions. Assuming I can fly into Da Nang do you offer bikes there to start? If I wanted to drive to Ha Noi how many days of casual driving is that route? You covered what route to go but not when to plan stop in between on some of the spots. Also for that area what month is best for coming out

We offer motorbike rentals in Danang yes. We go into more detail on blog articles, but I am a strong believer that Vietnam is a country to make it up as you go. There are not really "must do/see" activities here. I try to not push tourist sites too much. Vietnam is all about the culture and the bikes, not the activities.

2 weeks you have enough time to do everything. I would start North East and work counter clockwise. It will give you more freedom for the situation of covering more ground than expected.

I have lived in VN since 1992 and l travel all the time. Listening to your videp sounds like a different country to the one l know. Watch out for the Cops south of Mui Ne. Drive sensibly, observing speed limits. Cops expect Foreigners to drive properly. Only stopped once in 30 years.
