Tigne Underground Sliema Malta

Today me Angelo and Tristan are going to explore Fort Tigne' tunnels .Fort Tigné (Maltese: Il-Forti Tigné - Il-Fortizza ta' Tigné) is a polygonal fort in Tigné Point, Sliema, Malta. It was built by the Order of Saint John between 1793 and 1795 to protect the entrance to Marsamxett Harbour, and it is one of the oldest polygonal forts in the world. The fort was extensively altered by the British in the 19th century, and it remained in use by the military until 1979.
Fort Tigné was restored in the early 21st century, and it is now in good condition. It has been on Malta's tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1998, as part of the Knights' Fortifications around the Harbours of Malta.

Absolutely amazing, so many tunnels and rooms all built by hand. There is so much history under your feet in Malta, if only we knew what they were used for etc. Fantastic. Thankyou Pierre and friends. 😲👍

WHAT A BIG MAZE OF OLD TUNNELS😲! One goes to Tigne Fort never realises what's under your feet. Most of those nice skilful engravings must have been done during war air raids ✈. What!! What!! This is amazing. Malta was really sheltered well. And if attackers find the tunnels they would easily get lost. Piere, where exactly was the entrance to this fort tigne, where u started from?

Thank you Pierre for your fascinating vlog inside the tunnels.What was the original purpose for the use of the tunnels?Were they a sort of an escape route,a hideout (in case of an invasion) or could be some sort or a dungeon.I suppose it will be interesting researching their history.Thank you and your companions for taking us on your exploration.Its a shame that some of the tunnels are left full off rubble,need some investment and care and opportunity for the public to be able to walk around safely with guided tours..Grazzi Sahha👍🇲🇹
