At some point (1 year ago) I decided to make a meme animation. I worked so much on it, and it's really hard for me to stay concentrated on something that might take days-so it was a big deal for me. I posted it on KZbin. It didn't have many views, around 145. But people liked it. I showed it to my friends. They agreed that it was wonderful and they were really proud of me. Some time passed and one of my friends told me how she saw this clip on TikTok. Another one confirmed it. She started swearing at that person through messages telling her to take down the video. The person blocked her. At some point, I deleted the video and the KZbin channel, scared that someone would accuse me of stealing.

What's sad is that this isn't just an issue with Tik Tok. Instagram has a huge issue with "repost" accounts stealing art and not crediting the artists. There are some who do, but most of the work they do credit are only on Twitter, Tumblr, or Pixiv and it SUCKS. If I took a shot every time I saw some gorgeous fan art and finding out it's from a repost account, I'd die from alcohol poisoning. Most of them never even ask, too. I was a former Hollow Knight fan; I drew a lot of my favorite characters, some of my posts gained a little traction, and there was a repost account who took my work without permission. Now I was pretty chill with this dude, since my work was credited and I was tagged in their post and those posts gained a few more likes than my other work, but I asked them to get permission next time. I don't know if they ever listened to my advice, but I hope they did. Sorry for the ramble, but art in general is too easy to steal online and I hate it so much.

I have a friend who has 8k followers on TikTok who made “an audition tape for the role of Pooja” (the Pooja from that one video where she’s asked to pick something up and doesn’t) Then a larger creator recreated the video almost exactly like my friend. She didn’t credit my friend, and she took down comments of people accusing her of plagiarism. My friend reported her afterwards, but as far as I know, the video was never taken down. For anyone, on any platform, if other creators take your content without proper credit/consent, I apologize for that. I can’t make it any easier, but I hope you know that life has got your back. Tell your story, you deserve to be heard. We see plagiarism and people giving false credit all the time. It’s a cycle that has gone on for far too long.

As somebody who has had a video stolen on TikTok (the most viewed vid on my channel) I can definitely say that this is a problem. Somebody used my video, but their face over parts of it, and then got more views than my vid had at the time. Luckily the video got taken down bc enough ppl were saying that proper credit wasn’t getting given, but now I have to watermark all of my content so it doesn’t get stolen like that again

Honestly I’ve seen so many people repost others works it’s ridiculous. Even when the content creator has a watermark on the video people will just blatantly ignore it and still claim it as their own or say that it’s a form of credit (it’s not). And when you do try to call them out in the comments or the like they’ll be like “i NeVeR sAiD iT wAS mIne!!!”

Whenever I learn that someone stole someone else's work, I just unlike the video and go watch the original. I feel like even if you repost a video and give full credit, it's still a crappy thing to do cause as you said no one would then watch the original cause they already watched it, and the person who reposted it is just profiting off of someone else's work. TikTok should do better about that.

Fun fact! Back in April, i drew a fun little FNAF comic and put it on Reddit. It got a couple thousand upvotes, became hot on the subreddit for a while, the usual. Like a week after i made it, i got informed that some random shmuck on TikTok had reposted it. THE TIKTOK HAD ABOUT 200k LIKES. I didn't get access to how many views it had, but i can only imagine. They did have the decency to credit me, and it personally doesn't make me that upset... BUT STILL 😔
