Exploring this historic mansion located in downtown London, Ontario called "The Eldon House" which is considered the oldest continued residence in the city. It was built in 1834 with Regency and Georgian style architecture for Captain John and Amelia Harris, and was occupied by four generations of the Harris family from 1834 until 1960 when the last family member, Milly Harris, to live in the house passed away. The children then donated the Eldon House to The City of London at this time who now maintain it and turned part of the 11-acre property, which goes down to the river, into Harris Park. It still has the original heirlooms and furniture inside from the family and is virtually unchanged since the 19th Century.
The beginning: Captain John Harris was a Master in the Royal Navy on Merchant Marine Ships. He was sent to Canada for the War of 1812 where he met Amelia Ryerse in Port Ryerse, Ontario who was from a rich prominent family. John and Amelia married in 1815 and they raised 10 children in this house which is also known for his paranormal activity by visitors, workers and the staff.
The house was named after Lord Eldon, a Chancellor of England during the early 19th century whom John Harris admired, so he named the house after him in his honor. He, like John, was a self-made man with humble beginnings who having worked hard, rose to success.

I thought you had a London connection, based on some of your abandoned building videos. I took my family to see this house during Doors Open, a few years ago.

A great video! I have always loved touring historic homes. So many over time have been lost. They were built in an era that will never come again. That's when a mansion looked like a mansion! A lot of new mansions are...blah! A few of my favorites in my area are the Seiberling house in Akron, the Victorian House in Millersburg, and the Reeves Mansion in Dover. I like these video where you visit historic sights as much as your abandoned house videos. And these are a lot safer for you!

Wow! That place covers some acreage...and then there's the grounds😅. I wonder if they used some gear from Zamboni when it came time to clean house. And if they did, was it ride on or walk behind? Just teasing🙂. Maybe this place won't be abandoned any time soon. Thanks a bunch for the tour, Lovely Lady. You sis some great research and editing on this one...as usual. You are appreciated.

Thank you Tiki, I love old homes. Kind of reminds me of my maternal grandparents home in Philadelphia. It was a big 3 story house and the first time in it my brother and I went wild exploring it. There were two sets of stairs going to the 2nd and 3rd floors. It was very dark and spooky, neat, we loved it. 😊 Three of my grandparents came from Manchester, England. I just loved my paternal grand moms cockney accent. I use to sit there and say "just talk Grandma!"
