I love building hunting rifles with pre-fit barrels. Watching the barrel being made was mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing!

Barrels don't need to be cranked on. Accuracy is still excellent, without the barrel being cranked on. That is why barrels with barrel nuts exist....they are still accurate. I think a right hand twist tightens a right hand barrel thread, every time it is fired. Not like an impact hammer, but enough to make it tight enough. Christ bless!

I just bought a Sako 25-06 left handed. If I ever shoot the barrel out on it I want to put a 24 1/2 “ barrel on it with a 1/8 twist. But so far it’s so accurate that I can deal with a little less velocity out of this 22.3” barrel. Great video!

How much time did it really take to do all the work? I have been at it for 6 years now but still struggle to give accurate times for work to be done.

All said and done I plan on having 6 hours or so into a rifle. Some are a pain in the neck to dial in. Some do not want to unscrew from the action. Logging them in and out of the book and taking them to the post office the minutes add up fast.

Just a question. I saw in grizzly video indexing the grooves and the upward curvaure pointing up. Any ideas?
@DustinDrews1
@DustinDrews1 Жыл бұрын
Some think that if you clock the barrel so it points up you get some free elevation out of it. I’m not 100% sold on what they are trying to accomplish. If what they say is true. Every rifle we shoot that is not clocked would constantly shoot further and further to the left or right it it was not clocked strait up and down. I have shot a lot of rifles in my life. I can’t remember any of them needing to be adjusted constantly to the right or left at extended ranges. Just my humble opinion and simple brain trying to put it into real world experience.

@@DustinDrews1 Maybe so that the offset is pointing along single axis and against gravity? Also, they clocked the grooves to be coaxial with the lathe in front of the chamber. The idea was that this way the bullet engages the riffling perfectly coaxially. And that was accomplished by using spider at the muzzle end of the barrel.

I ordered a barrel from Shilens for a Remington 721 Remington that doesn’t shoot I have cleaned and changed scopes out and bedded the action and I am going to rebarrel it with a already threaded and short chambered barrel I’m going with a 280 Ai barrel I have my own barrel vice and I will get the finish reamer I think that it will be a fun project and hopefully make a good rifle it’s supposed to be a factory contour barrel with a 1-8 inch twist and 26 inch long with a target crown is there anything else I need to know about doing my own project

Not. Some good cutting oil. And a set of good no go gauges. Good luck with your project!

@@DustinDrews1 I was planning on getting the right tools for the job I got to look at the the bore in it with a bore scope and the original barrel wasn’t very good apparently Remington had started the bore off center the rifling’s coming out of the chamber was longer on one side than the other side and was not cut even it had to been inaccurate it’s hole life

I'm curious why you don't use a cutting oil when cutting the tenon? I went to your website to see a fee schedule for services but didn't see one
@DustinDrews1

I use carbide tooling. I have found it does not really change the finish one way or the other. When I cut threads at 500 rpm the heat leaves with the chip. Our website is a work in process. The work shown in the video with the barrel is 650.00 Thanks for the questions! God Bless, Dustin

@@DustinDrews1 What is your turn around time if someone sends you ALL parts to build a hunting rifle? On hand: barrel, stock, trigger, bottom metal, action and what would fee be? Metal would be bead blasted finish. And what method of payment do you take? Thanks

@@derekmcmurry I don’t like sitting on work. Normally less the 2 weeks. If it just a chamber, thread muzzle and assemble you supply the rifle you supply the parts. Probably around 500.00? Bedding, ceramic coatings and such is extra. Feel free to text if you wish. 402 Five2one 0286

In my shop I true the actions and remove that tapered front section of the action. I also do away with the cheap bull crap tikka recoil lug. I use a special profile matching coffin/ rem 700 type recoil lug. If your gonna go custom barrel true that action! Lee Gardner Precision.
