During his five-hour testimony in front of US lawmakers, Mr Chew ”tried the best he could” to allay privacy and security concerns, and address allegations of TikTok’s links to the Chinese government, Professor of Law and Technology at Georgetown University Anupam Chander told CNA’s Asia First. However, Mr Chew found an audience that was not prepared to accept those claims, the analyst said.

Because the evidence is overwhelmingly obvious, no matter much Chew tried to 'smoke' just won't change the fact that China CCP has an upper hand over ByteDance and Tiktok. AND FUN FACT, China CCP has already banned TikTok in China, for not allowing China to be 'influenced' by 'Western values'. LOL.

They ask him if the code of TikTok is the same as the Chinese counterpart app. Of course, they knew it's not. His answer was yes, it is the same as all these apps. They complained this is not an answer. They asked him if TikTok supports genocide. He did not answer. That was harsh, but it referred to the death of a 10-year-old girl. 'They asked him why certain content which is negative for the Chinese government is being removed. His answer was there is no such influence from China. Then they played a video from Shanghai that has been removed, where a protester was convicted. Then he admitted yes someone removed it. They asked him why TikTok is banned in China. He did not answer. He is a finance guy. He can't answer such questions same as Zuckerberg did. I give him a few more weeks, and he will be gone.

Viewers may want to open their minds to read a book written by Frédéric Pierucci, former executive of French Conglomerate, Alstom. The book is titled "The American Trap" TikTok may possibly be a victim of similar vein - to acquire the asset of an extremely successful/competitive company at fire-sale price. In the case of Alstom, Pierucci alleged that Alstom had the most competitive turbine technology prowess which a subsidiary of the conglomerate GE wanted to take-over, which the US politicians had investment interests in. Why does congress still create presentations that look like the ones I made in grammar school? The optics are terrible! I feel bad for the poor guy holding up the cheap Kinko posterboard. They can't even get a stand? It's 2023. It would have been hysterical if they used TikTok to make their presentations 🤣 My apple account has been hacked 3 times in the last five years and I didn't even get an apology. Idk I could care less about Tiktok but it's hard to watch people old as dirt that don't know a thing about any apps sit up there with their cue cards preaching about privacy practices 😵‍💫🙄

I'm not any sort of policy expert here, but I have a hobby of watching public hearings of the United States Congress. I usually watch hearings by the House and Senate Armed Services Committees which have oversight over the U.S. military. However, I can provide some insight into this. From my experience, Representatives and Senators asking questions at these hearings come in three forms: those who are open-minded and ask legitimate questions; those who are stern and ask tough questions that the respondent can't or won't answer because it's not within their purview/their bosses in the executive branch (for govt. officials) told them to shut up to such questions/they don't know; and those who ask shallow, provocative questions just to make a political point. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (who is a former U.S. Navy SEAL), in my opinion for this case, is a Type 3.

Each question they press on him is yes or no. Agree or disagree. And if he said yes or agreed it will only increase, he is doom. If he said no, he could be deem lying if they show evidences. He avoid in replying also make him liable for hiding the "truth". Any way dont get into trouble with USA laws, the sentence there is not as forgiving in Singapore. Over there the sentence could over 100 years even though it sounds absurb. Singapore shld have automatic 40 years jail for rapists and 50 years for incense rape to deter rapists. They can then work in prison factories to provide for their accomodation and food.with 150 million USA ? subscribers Tik Tok is a huge threat to the American govt. It could influence the voters. This will not go well for tik tok. Better to abandon the market than to forced sell to rivals.

The CEO said what he could say to avoid putting out numbers. The Prof. says how can you ban this app with a huge user base ... its already done in India. The real issue is its connection to ByteDance which has CCP officials as staff, so it's no ordinary app. The concern of the context is important to consider. There are not just American companies in China but there are other Chinese companies in US also. So to spread fear of tit for tat is wrong.
