I used to skate here when I was a teenager in the late 80's / early 90's (I think it was called Skate-A-Round USA back then). I remember hearing "It takes Two" by Rob base just about every night. Stopped skating (no real reason) for ~ 30 years. Got back on the floor a few months ago when my two son's wanted to roller skate. I had forgotten how fun it was, and was left wondering "why did I ever stop doing this"? Now one of my sons will be taking lessons there coming up this fall, he's really looking forward to it. Thanks, Angela, for keeping this place going and offering lessons! After skating on some wood floors, I can see the benefit to coated concrete. A different rink I skated at had chunks missing out of their wood floors (dangerous). I don't think the wood holds up as well as modern concrete coatings that are available (epoxy, polyaspartic, polyurea, etc).

I was just going to ask you if skating was making a comeback, but then you mentioned another rink closing. I used to skate all the time in the 80s and 90s, then rinks started closing down. I really hope it’s making a comeback.

There are still about 1000 rinks in the US. It feels like more people skating since we started a few years ago. Fingers crossed!

The property for the Piedmont rink got bought out by some developers, that's why it had to close.
