As a local of Hawai’i, I have seen way too many tourists get injured or even die on a hike through the forests and mountains because they’re not familiar with the terrain. So if u ever come here and decide to do a hike, please take a local who is familiar with the area. They will know which trails to take and how to avoid falling off one of the damn mountains. Same thing with the ocean and rivers. Don’t go swimming in certain places if u don’t wanna drown.

(Which is an issue in itself; Mainlanders moving to Hawai'i despite the wishes of the people here has been pricing out native Hawaiians forever now.) There are many reasons why you need to have someone who knows the trail with you. Going off trail is both dangerous and disrespectful, as you might not only get hurt, but you are also *very* likely to be trampling endangered plants. This likely would not have happened had they respected the trail (or been with someone who would guide them.)

Fun fact: the reason that medical costs are so high in the USA is because insurance pays tons of it, so what will happen is you will get 100,000 dollars for a bill, but the insurance company will pay 95,000. Some helpful tips from your boy as well, most of the time you can haggle with the hospital if you don’t have insurance, since they know you won’t pay the whole thin anyway. There are some people who straight up don’t pay as well, it does ruin your credit score to not pay though, so it’s better to just get insurance and haggle

My cousin is from Hawaii (Big Island), and every time I go there I get some kind of weird injury. The Hawaiian Islands are super dangerous in a lot of different ways. First time I went there as a kid, we went to see Kilauea (active volcano), and while we were there a man went off-trail and the ground collapsed and he feel into an empty lava tube. He survived the fall but suffocated due to the gases coming out of the vent before they could get him out. And every single time I’ve been there someone has drowned or nearly drowned. Hawaii is a brutal mistress.

The insurance situation is a game, but most people have no self-control, and thus, can't play it. I've been to the ER with no insurance, multiple times. $20k+ bills every time. Never paid a cent and it never affected me at all (other than having to block a lot of phone numbers). I followed the very wise advice of my high school psychology teacher. He told the class never to fall into the trap of getting a credit card. I'll be 35 in a few weeks. Never once had a situation where I even remotely needed a credit card. It's actually pretty funny, because when I'm going to make a sizeable purchase, my brother will usually ask me if he can do it on his credit card and I just transfer the money to him. BTW, most unpaid bills (including medical) disappear off your credit report after seven years. I don't have any unpaid bills from the last seven years, so my score is probably the same as an 18-year-old making the terrible decision to apply for one and getting the wheels spinning on a life of crippling debt.

For me personally it's not so much about asking for money as it is in HOW they went about it. It felt very disingenuous and bold to ask your fans (who already contribute to your entire salary) for more money because you decided that insurance was cringe. When the focus should have been on Caleb it just felt like another cash grab and them taking full advantage of Caleb to get more money. They need to be a bit more careful when asking for these things since they already (to the fans knowledge) already ask for money and fame. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I do hope Caleb makes a ful recovery because I think the Coffee family seems like a nice family with no ill intent, but they are a bit naive.

The problem with people choosing not to buy health insurance is that it’s still rather expensive per month. Of course if he was well off like you say, then yes he shouldn’t have an issue with it. but I bought health insurance for a year and ended up having to pay an extra like, $700 in taxes at the end of the year because our estimated income was lower than what we actually got (I was changing jobs mid year and spouse got a raise). We knew that if it wasn’t totally accurate we’d have to pay a little extra in taxes, but we weren’t expecting $700! So at that point, you might as well save the money you would’ve spent for a visit when needed. Insurance is only worth it if you have health issues and require regular visits, or if you have a bad accident (which we can’t account for). I think if it was more like car insurance, more people could afford it, but the available options right now kinda suck.

I don't mean to play Devils advocate here but... There is some real criticism here and its on the Father. I'm sure Pyro does not know but in the USA you can stay on your parents health insurance until you're 26 years old. This means his parents kicked him off his insurance, they kicked him off while also owning THREE different houses in Hawaii. Sure you can say Caleb could have paid it himself but his parents were more than able to pay his insurance. Also insurance is so much cheaper as a family so he could have stayed on his family plan and just paid his parents back!? I don't care what you say but his Dad is the problem here and honestly I dont think Pyro fully understands the situation outside comment sections. (Sorry I love you Pyro but its true)
