The most amazing part is that it's a cover of a movie song by Sophie Tucker. Did you hear the original?
@blueskygal2554 жыл бұрын
@@joaquinaltamirano199 This is from the Music Man which was a Broadway Play (1957) and then made into a movie. That's why the music is so great. Comes from the Golden Era of Broadway musicals. Now the Beatles did a GREAT cover of it for all the reasons Meront Feelta mentioned.The Sophie Tucker thing was a joke. It was written by a man Meredith Tucker. The cool thing was that the Beatles were open to all kinds of music, not just rock. I was about 9 years old when this was released by the Beatles.

@@blueskygal255 Got amazed with your explanation. The fact of taking such a lovely melody and transform it, adding speed, jazz chords ... and a Solo too! It only could happen with the Beatles. I envy you for being alive when the Beatles were them, haha! I'm only 18, but fortunately I could born with them and fall in love instantly. Cheers from Argentina, thank you!

George had 2 Gretsch Country Gentleman guitars. His first was a 1962 and had dial mutes. You can see and hear him playing it in 1963 at The Royal Variety Command Performance for the Queen. Then he got a 1963 Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar which had pop up mutes and that's the guitar you see him playing on the Beatles first Ed Sullivan appearance Feb 9, 1964..

shane s - Its a strange chord, usually played with the vibrola bar. F#7#9 - 242355. Its kinda like the Jimi Hendrix chord being major and minor. Id say its intentional because its what he does on all version, including Star Club and Decca

Ive played a number of versions from the Beatles collection book to KZbin lesson. The 3rd and 4th chords in the intro in both do not seem to emulate the song sounds when played on a single guitar. Example Gm to G9 only varies by a single note and they don’t reflect the song. I think the bass is what carries the sound.

Fantastic. EXCEPT it appears to me they played this in Emaj position with a capo on 1st fret for the album. When I just watched them play it live they play it a half-step lower in Emaj position without capos, presumably because they didn't want to both putting on a capo and retuning between songs. Thoughts?
@ghramsey16813 жыл бұрын
For Ed Sullivan Show Feb 8th appearance they de-tuned their guitars. All of the songs were 1/2 step flat. All My Loving in Eb, Till There Was You in E, I Want To Hold Your Hand in F#. Not sure the rest of their song lineup that first performance. I think they played de-tuned on the Miami show for certain. Either the rehersal or the on-air performance. One of the videos of them singing This Boy they are clearly de-tuned. The Royal Variety Show is the bar to go by and maybe BBC too. Both are tuned to F as the record is.
@zapdunga12 Жыл бұрын
The Beatles recorded this song (written by Meredith Wilson for 'The Music Man') for Decca and the BBC but the original EMI recording came later on July 18 and 30 1963. On the original recording George Harrison is playing a Ramirez "Rondalla"classical acoustic guitar (given to him by Klaus Voormann)and does his now famous lead on it (George uses this same guitar on "And I Love Her") and John Lennon is playing a Gibson J160e acoustic. George would never ever play this song live on acoustic. He would play his beautiful riffs and solo on his 1962 Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar and John would play it on his 1958 Rickenbacker 325C58. George would do a different lead live. On the recording at the lead guitar break it is very difficult to hear who is doing what at one point because of the fact they are both using acoustics and because of the mixing. As usual with John, he never played the song like he did on the recording when he played it live, using a couple of different chord positions and chords. For example on the recording you can hear a C9, but live he would play a C7 instead plus he got lazy. Instead of playing C to C9 to C augmented he left out either the C or the C9..

The first time I heard Till There Was You was in the Royal Variety show performance I think from Beatles Anthology. I've been fascinated with it ever since. Sadly, the audio mix for that show is poor mono. (Were they even mic'd outside of just loudspeaker for the audience?) Can't pick out much individual guitars. I'm not even close to good enough to pick up what is played from watching. That people have ciphered out those small licks and bits is amazing to me!

i really like George, ....but if he was sooo good, then why did damn McCartney TAKE OVER 80% of the leads in every song from 1967 onwards ??? -- because Im sure George just didnt lay down and let Mccartney do it ...without a decent fight
@siddarthrajesh97633 жыл бұрын
McCartney was like the band leader at that point..this was one of the main reasons why George and McCartney's friendship weakened....also George played majority of the guitar in Abbey road,and we all know that the guitar in that album is beautiful which just shows that George was a fantastic but minimalistic guitarist
@stellapolanco68602 жыл бұрын
You are exaggerating, McCartney since '67 must have a total of 20% of the guitar leads. Lennon did as many leads as McCartney did at the time, for example: "When I´m Sixty Four", "Revolution", "Yer Blues (First Solo)", "Honey Pie", "Get Back", "Birthday", "You Never Give Me Your Money (Dirty guitar solo) )", "I Want You". The rest is all Harrison.
