Excellent Video. I'm trying to bring my deceased uncle's Poulan 306 back to life. I bought the rebuild kit and realized I really didn't know what to do with it. Now I can rebuild with confidence. Thank you!

That's a really thorough video. Nice job. I really could've used a video like this years ago. You were talking about bow bars on the last video. Southern forest products has bows for sale. I think they are the last company making them.

I wish they made them for a larger diameter wood. They are a little small for my kinda work.

Good video Smitty 👍. I use plastic/polymer razor blades to remove gasket/ material from aluminum surfaces and highly recommend them. No chance of gouging the surface’s. Still need to be careful with them though so you don’t cut yourself lol.

Thank You. I have found that kerosene is a good cleaner for chainsaw parts, no corrosion and good residual lubrication.

Thank you for your video. I rebuilt my carb without any instruction or not really knowing what the heck I was doing, now my saw won' start! After watching your video I can go back and hopefully do it right. Also thanx for showing how to remove and replace the Welch plugs, you are the only one that I have seen do this! John J.

@@Smittyschainsaws After adjusting the carburetor several times over I’m finally getting this chainsaw to run quite nicely. But it’s still need some fine-tuning. One issue I have always had with this Husqvarna 61 is it seems like there is always excessive oil. When I shut the side down it seems like oil keeps losing and losing until there is oil everywhere. My case has always got a big puddle of oil inside of it. If I were to pull the oil seal and change that without solve that problem?

@@Zooks4 It just depends on the exact location of the leak. Sometimes it’s best the clean it up really well before looking. Makes it easier to find.

@@Smittyschainsaws I’ll clean it up real well and get back to ya with more info!👍👍👍

A cheap pressure/vaccum test with some soapy water helps identify where your air leak is. You can also pressure and vac test your carb with one of these things. I like my mitivac with pressure and vaccum. I forgot the model, but you can find cheaper ones.

I got to do the same thing if I leave the cards in my ultrasonic cleaner for more than a hour or two my concoction is pretty strong too

Thank you Maestro I am old but I wont to die learning !!! ...It has been for years that I have been "playing" around with chain saw as an hobby .... many years ago I bought A chain saw that is fitted with TILLOTSON CARBURETTOR HS 189A ---If Iread the right place ?-- Looking the gaskets that you used are the some I am sure a need new gaskets as the existing one are hard ---when I cleaned carb. and put it back a lot of fuel come out of the carb. and would not start even when I put a bit of fuel in spark plug hole still no start---..... anyway I wont to try with a new carb. kit meanwhile just wont to tank you .

@@Smittyschainsaws ....Well ...well finally I find a comprensive man who got time to answer my request ..thank you... This morning I put the gaskets back in the carb. and ready to test it the first try it almost started but after that it got so hard to pull the cord that almost injured my hand and harm ...then I realize that a lot of fuel come out from the carburettor .... Can you help where is the problem ? Is my carburettor and your the some model ? As I said the gaskets look like exactly the some seems the only difference are the high and low screws yours are longer !! thank you

@@tonyd6821 something is either causing the needle to stick open allowing fuel to flow freely or you could also have a bad check valve inside the carburetor. Whenever I have a bad check valve I typically replace the carburetor. Cost of repair for a bad check valve is higher than the cost to replace it.
@tonyd6821 Жыл бұрын
@@Smittyschainsaws ...I just want to tank you for your help....I took apart the carburettor and checked the needle I am sorry but I don't know where the check valve is anyway I put it back but seems no lick as before BUT when I pull the rope it goes a bit hard the first may be after fife or six times after that the rope comes a bit out then it blocks .... I want to ask you are the gaskets of these series HS all the same ?
@Smittyschainsaws Жыл бұрын
@@tonyd6821 I have some ideas you can try. Yes the gaskets are mostly all the same. Some slight difference can happen but most interchange. Make sure the diaphragm is good and soft. Very flexible. If it’s stiff it won’t work correctly. It shouldn’t have a warped look to it either. It should look smooth and even. Check the lever that connects to the needle. It could have gotten bent. It needs to be level with the carb floor. Sometimes just a hair higher. If it’s a lot higher just bend it back into position but also make sure it works the needle slightly. Check and make sure the metal part of the diaphragm is clipped in properly to the lever. If it’s not then the adjustment could be off. Make sure the diaphragm also has the gasket. It has two different parts that stack on top of each other. The diaphragm goes closer to the cover plate. The the gasket goes between the diaphragm and the carb body.
