@@fp-ko7vg no it really isn’t. He doesn’t sound anything like those 3. He plays a strat style guitar, that’s the only comparison. He sounds more like Eric Johnson then those 3 in his tone on a strat. But he doesn’t sound like him musically. Let people be themselves without cheesy comparisons. Yngwie would never play so few notes, Knopfler is more twang, I don’t see him playing slow hand blues like Gilmore. Who is next, Kirk Hammet?

Terrific interview with Mateus. His discussion of why he evolved his rhythmic/melodic approach is a classic example of how necessity is the mother of invention. He didn't have a virtual drum machine for rhythm so he evolved his play to fill the gap; wow. His talent and humility will take him far. Pete; thanks for introducing me to Mateus on a past Instagram post of yours. I can already hear the influence he has had on your ear.
@joshmuz90185 жыл бұрын
The way he lets out little yeahs and ahh while the others play is something we learn in worship teams. It's a way of listening to others and then expressing appreciation if their skills and then they play better you okay better and it feels like a painting you paint together and not a competition of egos. Could tell straight away this guy has a praise and worship upbringing

To me Mateus is fresh like Eddie Van Halen was fresh in 1978, lots of creative players over the years but every few decades someone emerges with such soulful expressions & sounds it takes your breath away and stops you in your tracks. It's like they reinvent the instrument, I'm SO glad he decided not to listen to his well meaning parents!

One of the main reasons I love watching this show is hearing the little idiosyncrasies that make each player their own player. For example, Mateus adds these beautiful microbends and mini-slides to his runs that I doubt anyone else would be able to replicate, even if shown how and when to do it. It's thing Mateus does unconsciously and it's wonderful. Thanks to Tim and Pete for making such engaging, worthwhile content. And wearing your fan hearts on your sleeves. Keep it coming!
