Wow! This discussion is so refreshing. When Luke asks, "Ok, what do we do with this then?", I was reminded of a time a Buddhist leader was asked, "What will we do after world peace is established? What then?" The leader asked the questioner, "Have you ever had sex?" To which the questioner answered, "Yes." To which the leader followed up, "Only once? The answer to your question is that if we are fortunate we will be reborn again in a world in need of our compassionate behavior." Like Marcus Aurelius taught, the obstacle is the way!

There is a distinction between Jesus the man, and Christ the spirit. Christ is a title, and the process of transformation that you should have gone through is to be "christed". Sadly that part of christianity have either been forgotten or deliberately removed.

Tim and Peter's Jesus books (a trilogy of 4 ; ) make Christianity so much better than it could ever possibly be without their work. They don't destroy it, but illuminate its heart, cutting through 2000 years of misunderstanding and ugliness. Also worth noting these books are 20 years old … Tim's latest work, Soul Story … now that's what you want to be reading … mind-blowing in the best possible way!!

I went through a metamorphosis back in 2011-2012. I felt called to come out of the church and to study the Bible...really look into it. By doing so, I first followed Jesus out of Christianity, then I realized he was not the 'Messiah' and the god-man that I had been taught.... I lost a lot of friends with that one. Then I went through the "Hebrew Roots Movement" - following the teachings of the TaNaKh , then I was a part of a group that followed the Torah only. It was then that I discovered the Israelite Samaritan version of the Torah and saw how so many people had their hands in the writing of this book we call the Bible and how there exists many versions of the story that it became overwhelming. It was too much. That was when I had a true awakening of the Oneness of God/Source and my whole perspective changed. I had a change in heart....a type of Resurrection. What Tim is describing about the true reason for the myths happened to me, but without a physical guide. I believe I was guided by Source/ God. This was a lesson I had to learn and the Journey I went through was the way I was to learn it. I'm now 59 years old and I now can truly say, " Whom the Son sets free is free indeed"!! :-)

Freke's work seems fascinating and may help change some long held assumptions of mine. For many Christians the story is absolutely taken literally and is sort of dressed up in the supernatural stuff but actually seems spiritually empty. The core truths, expressed in symbolism, become subsumed by a faith that appears to be more about belief for an anodyne effect than a noetic understanding. The inner missing part of The Mysteries - leaving only the literal content - is a compelling idea. As soon as egoic fear enters, the anger and war making and atrocities appear in religious history. In Christianity it seems like a perverse re-crucifixion of Jesus. More concretely, the English translation of the New Testament from the Greek contains huge - and presumably intentional - mistranslations [or extreme reinterpretation] that entirely change the meaning of Christ, his teachings, and his life. The Romanization of Christianity was it's downfall. It was "a fascist state" takeover of the teachings. Jesus was turned into a guilded corpse - no longer the living Christ within us. We're asked the impossible : that we live a life that emulates his perfection - forever falling far short. Christianity turns the resultant guilt into a virtue. But the creation of Christianity itself , as Tim Freke suggests, may be a creation misunderstanding. Looking forward to finally reading his book.

This guy has tapped into the timeless memory of being. I have noticed One Aspect of great importance has been left out , it's a choice made in awareness of the greater reality and our role as Co-creators, this is the choice between Service to Self , or Service to others . This is the basis of all the distortions of religious morality , and is a choice presented with true neutrality towards outcome .

Great interview, very inspired by the finial thoughts about how it doesn't matter what you do to serve the 'thing', as long as you are aware of doing it. As someone who isn't Christian and doesn't have a dog in this fight, the only work I've read on the topic is Reza Aslan's "Zealot: The Life & Times of Jesus of Nazareth, who relied on Roman and Greek records to establish that the man actually existed and frequently got in trouble for rallying Jewish folks to resist the brutal Roman occupation. Like many other seditious leaders of his time, Jesus was eventually arrested and executed. The title "Savior" was not exclusively his but was given to many Jewish revolutionary leaders of the day. No evidence that he ever claimed to be a son of God. Reza also found some eye witness accounts of his healing work, take it or leave it. I think Jesus is a lot more interesting as someone who stood up for justice for his people in very dangerous times. Other than that I think the Emerald Tablets are more reliable than all the Bibles in the world. Still very fascinated by the Jesus Mystery discussions.

the similarities throughout our known religious histories has always intrigued me , Recently I've been considering what is a rather fresh idea for me .. here it is . Ok, lets assume the big names in the Jewish/ Christ /Muslim / Buddhist etc.. mysteries are allegorical , or at least a dramatized recollection of the life stories of these very human figures . If this is the case , it would be fair to say the true "prophets" are the scribes and teachers of these mysteries . Now, even if we underestimated our ancestors ability to cross oceans , and global travel was taking place when one takes into account the distance , isolation and the degree of similarities that exsisted between cultures -- which by the way in many cases show no other signs of cross cultural exchange except in their sacred mysteries and the fixation upon the building of ( pyramids --another rabbit hole entirely) -- it seems very unlikely that this would be the explanation. Here comes the juicy part.. Perhaps there are well defined paths of spiritual evolution , and these paths are defined by certain ways of being within the human experience , for example - Universal Love , The eternal validity of Free Will , Thanksgiving to the Creator, Service to Others , Service to Self , Forgiveness , Vengeance, Healing , Magick , Universal Consciousness, All is one... I could go on , but these are some of the big ones . Now if these are all paths / aspects upon the road map of infinity , and Every Individual has this map within them , yet can only see a small piece of it depending upon the path they have been walking , it would be a reasonable assumption that their are well travelled paths , or "archetypes" if you prefer , and along these well explored paths there are sign posts , which were left by those who came before to guide travelers on their journeys, and perhaps even conscious entities that act as guides/teachers for some. These sign posts are stories, or myths, and the conscious entities are the story tellers you meet along the way . I think many would agree that storytelling is a powerful instrument when used to convey wisdom and understanding , perhaps even the best tool we have available at this time. If this was the case, it would be unavoidable for the students of mysteries to create similar symbols , concepts, and spiritual mythos . Why you ask? Consider the vastness of the shared human experience, now consider the minor differences like location of birth , upbringing , and environmental factors, belief systems etc... It becomes obvious , we are vastly more alike than we are different .... Doesn't War and systems of "governance" that focus upon the division of humanity seem kinda .. counter-intuitive? If you got this far know that I am honored to have had the chance to share my thoughts with another , thank you. Id love to hear your perspective on the matter . -D.G.W

I dont know if you know this already , but I have just learned that according to Kabbalist teachings , Nothing written in Old Testament reffers to things on this Earth . The stories are spiritual guidance into ones attainment . So , whatever we have imagined the story of Eve and Adam to be - none of it is correct , as it is not describing any phisical thing , nor women, nor man, nor snake .The same stands for everything written in the Bible . Once you are aware of this fact , the whole approach towards understanding those texts has to be radicaly different . And it is up to us to determin what will that approach be . I hope this info helps :) All the best on your quest ! :)

I was really excited to listen to the first half of this interview as the depth of knowledge of Tim regarding the mystical side of Christianity was so compelling. Not since Joseph Campbell has anyone really spoken with such depth about the deeper meanings of the archetypal symbolism. Betty Kovács on Jeffrey Mishlove's channel also speaks at great length about the Nag Hammadi library which is very interesting and especially as she refers to returning to our shamanic roots, which have plainly been suppressed and forgotten. I like Tim and find his philosophical approach refreshing and loved the optimistic evolutionary idea, however it all starts to fall apart on the question of "how" which Luke unsurprisingly got stuck on. The question of how to access these states of consciousness is the primary one. I felt quite disappointed by Tim's extraordinary claim, right near the end, where he says "there is no permanent state" and anyone who claims they might have found one are being disingenuous. One can plainly have huge shifts and changes in consciousness with an NDE or plant medicines, which Luke obviously knows all about from Graham. So how can anyone make a statement about anyone else's inability to change consciousness, disappointing. It seems completely apparent that we have to heal ourselves and dissolve the blocks in our own field before we can properly access higher states of consciousness, Tim never mentions healing so doesn't really provide any real tangible way of access for most people. Betty Kovács is much more on point by suggesting a return to our shamanic roots which is the only way forward in my view.

@Catherine Ives The supposed hidden knowledge in the Bible is irrelevant, the only thing that matters is expanding your consciousness and becoming whole.
@janetjacks3406
@janetjacks3406 2 жыл бұрын
@Catherine Ives Perhaps I was a bit harsh saying it was irrelevant but I wouldn't see how this information, whatever it is, could possibly lead to an internal transformation of anything. The only thing I know that can truly change perceptions is NDE's or plant medicines. That's why I was critical of Tim, who I like very much, but there has to be practical solutions that work.
@janetjacks3406
@janetjacks3406 2 жыл бұрын
@Catherine Ives I think your view is because you simply have not had any of these experiences so you wrongly assume that they can't be transformative or have any spiritual value. If you care to read the many NDE experiences which have completely changed people because they have acquired a totally different perception, then perhaps you would consider differently. Also with plant medicines I think they are there as sacraments and are there to heal us. The reality for me, and many others is that without them there would be no change or improvement in many psychological impediments and also offer a transpersonal experience too, which is actually what is so transformative. Of course you don't see how things can be speeded up, but they can. You have a fixed view and probably think it all has to be hard yards and wish to devalue other ways as undoubtedly you think it's a cheat. There is nothing easy about plant medicines so it is walking the path, it's just that they amplify and speed it up as does NDE's.

What TF skirts around imho in response to Luke's brilliant circling questioning is that the awakening of our unividuality is contingent upon our current level of consciousness - the evolution of our consciousness (to reach awakening) takes many many lifetimes. Suggestions of 'awakening' if you attend TF's "workshop" are a little misleading imho. It can happen if you are born with a consciousness on the brink of awakening - and/or been doing earnest "consciousness work" your whole life - TF's "workshop" can be the tipping point for you in this special scenario. For the rest of us, experiences of oneness are usually very possible but not permanent as Luke shares. Appreciate and value TF's work and synthesis of knowledge and perspective - very profound. Love the new word unividuality.

8:14 That is exactly what I‘m looking for - brb, gotta buy his books... 1:11:22 He really is a master of two worlds: able to engage with the world, without getting lost in it. Able to disengage, without wanting to flee it / escape from it. Able to change perspective, then willing to reengage, because „being“ naturally involves development / a search for improvement / expanding into nearby niches, seeking local optima and everything involved with evolution. While the processes look cyclical / similar in every self / instantiation, the universe is still unfolding, and will do so for a googol years and it’s not going back to its starting position any time soon (not at human scales, not on geological scales, not even on the order of magnitude of its own current age (since the Big Bang)). Being conscious about his own little role in that development, willingly unfolding his own life in new and interesting patterns, seeing the interconnections and trying to increase them in ways that he finds meaningful. - That is my understanding of his philosophy. 1:23:36 beautiful ending: paying attention is the way to learn anything - sounds like Joscha Bach, but he added something: that consciousness is the log-file of what you payed attention to, and if you pay attention to that log-file you become aware of being aware (it is logged that you accessed the log-file). Revisit Lex Friedman #101!

A decent man is no friend to God or the devil. Not willing to remain in darkness I called to the creator and was saved. When I was prideful and apart from God I would have been sceptic too. All That was lost has been restored many times over, I retired from the world at 45 and work for God full time.. Can anyone explain to me why loving your enemies is anything that should be considered virtuous? It's a warm and cozy statement, but in practice seems to me to be a recipe for exactly what the early organized Roman Church was going for - domination. This is the slave morality that Nietzche wrote about. To me, loving your enemies seems an insidious and incredibly stupid idea. Please help?

Now, I see God can be both loving and un-loving, positive and negative, good and evil, provider and remover, negative one, zero and one, etc. I no longer comprehend God to be just for us if our faith is in God. Hi 👋🏻 Can you help with this thought 💭 There seems to be code inside the major stories of the past. As example: the story of Aeneas ( Father of Rome) is an allegory, what is the allegory? I have the 7 in this story decoded as the cities he visits. Similar to how the 7 are expressed in Greek writings: The Gods of Greece: Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Themis, Rhea, Cronus -Retelling of the Gods of Greece: the stone, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus If the 7 in the story of Aeneas are the cities, why do you think that is and/or what do you feel it expresses? Thrace, Delos, “Harpie Island”, Chaonia, Carthage, Sicily, Latium Many Thanks

20:49Twelve Disciples / Zodiac ; Christ as Polaris / the Northstar / the Axis for correct orientation; as above, so below; I think that resurrection or reincarnation is not about the Soul at the personal level, but about the resurrection of human culture (which is the soul of the civilization) after the human civilization almost got wiped out by the Cataclysm. I’m kind of stuck at the outer layer with my catastrophist readings of the myths: but I like it that way. The inner layers might be more important for the survival of human culture between the cataclysms, but the knowledge of the original outer layer becomes relevant again, when the cycle comes to a close (assuming that it might repeat around every 12000 years for cosmic / galactic / solar / geological / geomagnetic reasons; which is a bit of a stretch, but would be really annoying to miss, if the hints were there all along as I assume). (I’m personally obsessed with the Axis in the Myths: first because it points at the Great Year / The Precession of the Equinoxes / The Long Calendar; second because I think the cataclysm had to do with a tumbling of the axis (Earth Crust Displacement Theories) and thus we get the need to symbolically re-erect it in theatric traditions every year. I think the cross symbolizes the Axis, the same way as the Pillar in the Samson story symbolizes the Axis, or the tree Odin hangs himself on; probably all the trees in the traditions: erecting the Christmas tree and putting a Star on top: that’s Polaris, not “the Star of Bethlehem” in my own reading, because the Axis points at it; the May Tree (which can get stolen) which needs to be erected each year and gets danced around, the tree at the Church fair) - my obsession with Catastrophism tends to flow out into several comment sections all over KZbin; Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson really got me started (thanks Joe Rogan); and then Robert Schoch pointed me to Anthony Perrat (also thanks to Joe Rogan) - it’s a bit ironic that the Gnostics and the Mysteries pointed to the personal inner meaning, while I ended up with (pre-)Historicism in Extremo: as I count the myths importance as an echo of the literally world shaking and tumbling cataclysm… - trying to prove an actual event by pointing to possible meanings of Myths, that either were lost along the way, or are just my own inventions / readings… 25:19 Outer and Inner Mysteries; Sin = Missing the Point / Aiming wrong (Etymology from Archery); changing direction Imho the change of direction, then read by John the Baptist as repentance, as turning your life around: but what is Baptism with Water - a re-occurrence of the flood that washed the sinners away, now read as washing the sins away on a personal level. But the flood itself is the cataclysm. And if the cataclysm really came from a re-orientation of the Earths axis, we come back full circle to the “change of direction” / axis aimed wrong. - I think the inner and outer layers of the mysteries are linked in such an artful way, that almost everything can be read both ways. It’s literally layers on layers, like a Mandelbrot fractal where you can zoom in and find repeating patterns. So it can always be read at the personal spiritual level, as well as the cultural / civilizational / (pre-)historical level. - I think, the idea that “something really happened” is so important, that it kind of went into the historicity of Christ, even if Christ himself was not the thing that really happened. The Cataclysm really happened: death and resurrection of human civilization.

Beautiful talk. But as an answer to the question - How do we do it & what exactly do v do? The steps r outlined very clearly in Rishi Patanjali's Yoga Sutras which is a scientific manual of the inner science, recited some 7000yrs back and carried through oral traditions. Step by step, it describes the various experiential processes. The earlier 2 chapters prepare you to meditate. Meditation itself is described in 3 stages Dharana-focussing on one object to the exclusion of others, Dhyana-maintaining the focus and sustaining it for lengths of time, Samadhi-when u become one with the object that u hv been focussing on. ie.there is no separation between you and the object (not necessarily a physical object,u can focus on a thought, sound or even the 3rd eye). What happens when u access the state of Samadhi is described in the 3rd chapter, called Vibuthi Padha where the various states that you can encounter are described. Various powers can be acquired. It also warns u not to entangle yourself with this state and transcend to the final oneness with the very cosmic source. The final state is described in chapter 4. The purpose of human life is complete when u become one with the very source of creation. Till then, there will always be a gap in your life, no matter what u do, however good u r at it. There is a very good commentary on this by Osho. It's got some 10 volumes. Patanjali's Yoga Sutras Yoga : The Alpha and the Omega, Vol 1-10 www.osho.com/read/osho/osho-on-topics/patanjali There is also another text called Vigyan Bhairava Tantra, a talk on this is also done by Osho. Here, the same is described through 112 techniques. The Vigyan Bhairav Tantra starts with these profound questions from Devi to Shiva OH SHIVA, WHAT IS YOUR REALITY? WHAT IS THIS WONDER-FILLED UNIVERSE? WHAT CONSTITUTES SEED? WHO CENTERS THE UNIVERSAL WHEEL? WHAT IS THIS LIFE BEYOND FORM PERVADING FORMS? HOW MAY WE ENTER IT FULLY, ABOVE SPACE AND TIME, NAMES AND DESCRIPTIONS? LET MY DOUBTS BE CLEARED! Shiva proceeds to answer her not by great explanations but by giving her 112 techniques that cover all aspects of your day to day activities. U can use any one technique that u r comfortable with, to attain the state of Shiva-the state of nothingness which is also the state of everythingness, the all inclusiveness. Osho's transcripts should be available on the same site. It's on 2 volumes.

dear Mr. Freke... I studied for years also looking for the thread of continuity in both the tangible and intangible, inspired by Joseph Campbell. LIVE (long I plz) is the only item I have found that most every body LIVE, would agree, we who are LIVE are LIVE. As LIVE we must also be a part of the animating force, and source of LIVE... Look at the strength of LIVE to keep all LIVE that was ever LIVE LIVE, even in this great delusion and distortion.... Kind of connects the dots for me like you did some for me so I am reciprocating by sharing and comparing notes with you... Thank you for sharing your LIVE with us... 💢

we "human being" is the reflection of God....God is assence and its reflection is us... its like, light moving trough a triangular prism from one side to the other side forming a rainbow light...God is that light going trough the prism and we are the rainbow that came out from the other side of prism...But we are NOT God, we are God's reflection..God always with us because without God, we never exist... Tim Freke said "i distinguish from what i appear to be from what i am", which is, from my understanding is, when we learn, feel, experience "it", we will realise that we are "one" or "same" or "connected" with one another... but for me, we r not evolving to be the God and we will never become God ... because we are the God's reflection...

Really great talk! I really enjoyed listening and found it thought provoking. What I’ve thought lately is that it’s humans destiny to help out animals and plants. Once we solve all of our problems which hopefully if we keep learning and improving we will do is that we will shift towards helping animals/plants like dogs otter dolphins octopus and other animals which have all shown signs of intelligence and the ability to learn. After all they have hard lives too and for example a mother bear will eat her cub if she doesn’t think it will survive. If that was a human we would be horrified. One day hopefully we can stop this kind of suffering from happening. But really animals show signs of sentience and intelligence and even though their lives can be filled with darkness from our point of view through technology and ai maybe we can teach them morality and intelligence and help them do what we’re doing now without disrupting the balance of nature. Even plants show signs of communication and intelligence and I hope deep in the future all species transcend the problems they face on earth and reach a higher more positive loving form of life. It will be complicated to achieve and maybe there should be two forms of species. For example with dogs maybe we have one intelligent evolved dog vs one that is just like the one now. That way the species would know where it came from and still be attached to its roots and nature would be the same as it is now but idk. Nature has constantly evolved and It’s complicated but I’m sure in the future we can figure out a way to make it work and have a more loving less suffering existence for all. 🦦
