I have always been kinda split in whether or not the song should be interpreted sarcastically, and that Patty Murphy was dislike, hence why is wake is utter chaos, or because he was just as much of a hellion as those attending, and that kind of wake genuinely being what he wanted. I tend to lean towards the latter though.
