Tim is a god. Highly intelligent and highly creative and witty. Bit of context to this song: Tim considers himself super lucky. He was brought up middle class (the son of a surgeon), been married to his high school sweetheart since he was 17 etc. When he was trying to get noticed in the 90s/early 2000s grunge was really popular. Tim has said before in his song Rock and Roll Nerd that he struggles to write dark songs because of his background. In this song he is doing his best to evoke his dark side but only has trivial things like "daddy didn't come to my ball games" for inspiration. By the way, Tim is also an actor (can you tell? 🤣), poet, writer and director. Genius. Watch "Storm" - it's a beat poem about critical thinking.

Tim is a phenomenal actor and writer, he co wrote and starred in 2 seasons of his show Upright and it is honestly one of the best pieces of TV you could watch. The acting is stellar and it is very well written.

Additional Context- Tim wrote this song as a response to Sony records rejecting his record as it didn’t appeal to teenage audiences.

Tim has shown the world and the cronies at Sony in particular that he is much more than a “pop” star. Thank god they turned him down before they shoved him into the typical route of pop stardom!!! Tim has always been on the supposedly “off” side of musical comedy but has always been brilliant. Tim’s performance as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar was amazing and it showed that Tim could be serious. Tim is a musical genius and he has risen above and produced wonderful stage shows in Matilda and Groundhog Day.

Agreed about "Storm." A must-see.

This was an F U to Sony Records for rejecting him.

The Eddie Vedder sendup was the best part (other than that SAVAGE piano solo)

I used to like prejudice more but I love the piano riff in Dark side so much I think I might enjoy it more

Tim hates Prejudice by the way, it's the only song he regrets and he despises how popular it is.

Its pretty apparent you didnt get his musical impressions he was doing. They were considered artists that were "dark" and appealed to the teenage market.

If you liked this Thomas Benjamin Esq has many golden bits to. "No more fucks to give" and "This is shit" is good places to start.

If youre looking for something a little different Tim released a song in lockdown with aussie rapper Briggs. Its called Housefyre. Or his most recent song was one he did to celebrate the anniversary of The Sydney Opera House entitled Play It Safe. I have to disagree with you though, Prejudice is overplayed and overhyped and honestly its my least favourite Tim Minchin song, it is also Tim's least favourite and it bother him that its his most popular song. Dark side is definitely one of his best though, its less a song and more of a genius work of art. Just the amount of artistry and skill in Dark Side takes it to a whole different level for me.
