This is from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005 at the Wine Bar in the Gilded Balloon on the final night of the fringe. Highlight of my trip. Geradline Quinn sings this duet with Tim.

I was the sound guy. The Wine Bar was my venue. That was literally the last thing played. Absolutely fantastic it was. There"s a band on the stage that you can't see. Fab guys but the name escapes me at the moment. Some guy on his phone or camera but from a sound point of view, pretty chuffed with the sound :) It really was pretty special & I'm glad I was there.

I filmed it, beyond lucky I had my camera out before they started to play. I was there with my company performing in the main hall at the Gilded Baloon Teviot. Thank you for running sound, this performance was the highlight of my Fringe.

i think one of the greatest thing of owning a venue, is not the profit, nor the connection you get from known ppl, but to witness musical/artistic moments like this, that will most likely get wash away and lost from people's memory, or that most people didn't even know existed, but it happened at your venue, and you gets to be there, at that very moment when it happened.... and thanks for Sean we get to share this wonderful moment and a truly wonderful version of this historical song, i am truly greatful PS: who is that lady? her voice is just..... wow

That's real music there. That's how it's supposed to be done - late at night in a club - a couple of brews - freinds and enemies together just wailing out stories. That's not raw, that's primal.

Had to revisit this after seeing Tim play it at the last of his Unfunny gigs in Edinburgh. Wow. Lights off (cause he likes doing it in the dark) gave all the feels. When the audience joined and the piano stoped, just Tim and 800 folk singing Hallelujah in a old church the roof lifted and hearts soared. Blissful ❤

For those of us lost among our fellow violent ignorant ape decedents with our compassion and creativity gasping for what rarefied air remains there are far too few like Tim to help us along the way. As we mark off the final generations/years of our species and try as best we can to grab what joy remains may humor and the spark such artists provide .... well, you get the point.

My choir has a yearly gig at the local hospital right before christmas and we always do white wine in the sun as part of our set there. We've definitely caused a few wet-eye moments in the audience because it's just such a lovely message. As for this song, I love Hallelujah, love Leonard Cohen's original versions but have to agree with some of the comments here that this duet is one of the more primal versions I've heard and it adds such an interesting emotional element to the song

Love Tim. Never heard of Geraldine Quinn. I have heard a lot of people sing it, but this is a new and original interpretation of a beautiful modern hymn. Cohen, Shrek Buckley (really y'all?), the truly marvelous K.D. Lang, even my perfect angel Brandi Carlile, never brought me the deep down blues roots Geri brings here. Listen again. Don't miss her laying all the way back in a totally new groove. Somehow, this alcohol-infused bar-room episode redefines the song. Again.

David Kern Quinny is a gem of the Melbourne comedy industry. Total rock chick. I love this clip - musical mates having a great old (definitely tipsy) time together in an off-the-cuff performance. This is what makes festivals like Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, etc such a great experience - this sort of thing happens all the darned time at tiny little gigs. Take a punt and you can see the most amazing things. Good to see Mick Moriarty copping a kiss at the end.

I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne, and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Baby I have been here before I know this room, I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew you. I've seen your flag on the marble arch Love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah There was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show it to me, do you? And remember when I moved in you The holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Maybe there’s a God above But all I’ve ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you It’s not a cry you can hear at night It’s not somebody who has seen the light It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah You say I took the name in vain I don't even know the name But if I did, well, really, what's it to you? There's a blaze of light in every word It doesn't matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah

It's not AT ALL about religion, inspite of the biblical references. It's about the heartbreak of falling out of love: "I've seen your flag on the Marble Arch, but love is not a victory march. It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah." That's human pain and grief and loss.
