I have one of the orange-peeling rings. It works very well. You use the small point to score the peel, and then you use the broad, flat end to pry the peel off the fruit.

Those German pranks are sometimes a bit sadistic. It's obvious that ring could damage the eyes, but I've seen other German pranks that really make you wonder. A friend of mine has this cute little wooden box with a bucolic country scene painted on the side, and the side of the box is a little slide off door. When you open it, a little painted wooden snake with a sharpened needle for a tongue lunges out and stabs your finger.

The citrus peeler ring reminds me of the Chef'n Palm Peeler, a vegetable peeler that you wear as a ring, with the large part with the b;ade nestled in your palm. My grandma has one, and apparently _Cook's Illustrated_ rated it as one of the worst vegetable peelers on the market; apparently the low arch over the blade makes it hard to clean.

I never wear rings. I know three different people who lost a finger because a ring got stuck. One was a tennis arbiter who jumped of the high seat and left a finger behind. Another was a concert pianist who had a similar accident, and for a musician to lose a finger is really bad.
