Last Euros Italy did great in their first game, won about 3-0 and played a performance that made everyone think wow this lot could win it. And they did. They were consistantly the best performers, probably because other teams feared them from the word go.

say what you want about Southgate, but he's still the greatest England manager since Alf Ramsey. SGE couldn't do what he did (with an even better team), Capello couldn't do what he did, etc. I think Southgate went into this tournament worried stiff about the back 4 (as we all did) and he knew if he went guns blazing we would get countered and killed. We have a great draw and we are seeing more of our technical players introduced. I've said this during the last couple of international tournaments and I'll say it again during this one - *I hope England don't win the tournament playing **_this_** style of football.* If we do, it'll set a precedent that this type of football 'works', and is 'successful' at winning tournaments. Personally I'd rather see us play exciting football and fall heroically at the last hurdle, than play _the worlds most boring_ brand of football and grind out results to win it. It would feel really bittersweet if we lifted the trophy after boring our way through the whole tournament.
