I appreciate how you let the horse think things through. Horses ARE smart, it's just the ignorant humans that cause the problems

Well done Breeze! Love the patience and letting her work through her fear. You can see how that builds her confidence and her confidence in you Tim. Great video!

Mustangs can have a very strong survival mode but their thinking is usually pretty solid. I follow a few of the trainers that work a lot with Mustangs. 90 days can do a lot with the correct handling! I am enjoying watching Breezes' journey! Very nice mare!!

That last segment was really interesting. I loved how you gave her the quiet time to process the situation at the wood plank crossing. Her snorting was fascinating as she was almost talking herself into going forward. She felt that the cow meant no harm, and all she needed was to test the footing. I imagine that in addition to the survival skills of deciding what are and aren't predators, they also feel for the ground that they would not fall through or get stuck in. All the boxes checking, she walked up onto the wood to be with the human she trusted to be her leader.

I liked how when you walked off camera, to retrieve the saddle, she stepped forward into the cross tie to see where you were going. Her ears were forward and she looked to be showing interest in you.

I love the Icelandic horses, due to not having any predators in Iceland they rarely spook. The gait or tilt is so smooth and fun. Not being tall myself I like the smaller stature. I took lessons on a wonderful horse but, due to the incredible high price I was unable to afford one. Luckily I found a sweet older mare whose breed I didn’t know and had many wonderful rides in the woods near my house. Thank you for this interesting topic.

Deadgum I was holding my breath for you swinging that leg over 😅. I like this mare's mind. I'm partial to Mustangs anyway. They're the only horse bred for brains. Only the smart survive.

Before I started my mustang with a rope halter I would have agreed with Tim that a bit is necessary. I am actually surprised by my mare how easily she steers with legs and very little rein. BTW I am doing this because I am still not able to get a dentist. Everyone told me to not ride her without dental work done. And do NOT try it unless you really know very well how to ride a horse with legs and weight only!!! I still have high hopes to get a dentist and ride her with a bit. 😁

How do you feel about riding in a bitless bridal or do you feel it's the same thing as a halter?

All of the horses I train need to be progressing towards riding in a bit so using a bitless bridle doesn't fit in my program.
