Darn guessed it wrong on her too now knowing she MFT I totally see it. I always make a point of getting on my gelding an just having him stand still till it's my idea to go. The gaited horse tend be much faster then the 3 gaited are. I've ridden with gaited horses an my horse has to trot fast to keep up. They really cover ground.

I've been watching another channel with MFT'S As soon as you asked her to move a bit faster I could tell what she is. The way her head bobs. Also I can see that her back end is weekshe does need a bit of conditioning work from what I've seen from those performance MFT. She's gorgeous!! Looking forward to seeing her progress ☺️

Tim - you said we cause problems by not doing proper warm up at start of ride or cool down at end. Do you have a video that elaborates on this? If not can you? Jazz looks like she’s already moving better than in her first video. She must have a great trainer!

Hi Tim, This horse is goin' pretty good along the fence. What if, when you go to turn her toward the fence, she braced against the bit, and pulled hard the other way? What would you do?

In that situation turning the other way is not the answer. Any time a horse gets bracy the answer is forward.. If I turner her towards the fence and she got bracy I would continue the turn but push her forward through the turn.

I have a horse that will brace hard toward the barn. You can't out muscle 1200# horse, so I let her go to the barn and then work her there back and forth until she doesn't want to go to the barn so much. But, she'll still try it, at times. She was pretty emotional and uncontrollable when I got her, with the rushing and barging, and they hadn't ridden her in 4 years because of it. She had one speed, fast, and a lot of anxiety because of abusive bit and bad riding. All in all, she's about 75% improved, which I'm thankful for. At least she knows how to walk on a loose rein now. She still gets emotional at times, especially going toward the barn, and that's when the bracing and rushing occurs. Trying to control it, only makes her worse. If I can't calm her down, I get off, and walk a bit, do a little ground work before getting back on her. I was hoping to do a little trail riding this fall, but she's not ready and now winter is upon us. I like your videos. You use horses with real problems and show all of it. You are just a kid compared to me! I'm 79. Worked with horses for many years. Showed Arabs in halter class for friends of mine. Barrel raced, drill teams, all of that. Finally got back into horses after many years of raising a big family. Because of my age, I don't take chances the way I used to! All those gaited horse people at trail rides take off like they at the races. As soon as their rear hits the saddle those horses are gone. First organized group trail ride of the year will be a derby she'll be all wound up because that's what those riders do.

Well kinda. It depends on what the horse has done before, if it’s fit or not and it’s age. I spent a year building up my gaited mare very carefully since her former owner did not gait her did not have saddles that fit and shod her incorrectly. So I had lots of work to do building muscle ( not to mention getting a saddle to fit ) solving ulcers from stress, then miles and miles of walking flat walk and running walk, THEN I started asking for gaits. A year and five months later the horse is vastly improved and a dream to ride.

I think she lacks a smooth cadence. Maybe I am seeing something that isn’t there. Her rear end seems… weak and it affects the smooth trot that should be but is not totally present. I guess I am saying her gait sucks. Her owners care about their mare otherwise they would not send her to you. How do you correct the owners so the mare doesn’t return to her previous “Fallen” state?

It’s because she’s pacing. It’s because she’s lazy and she needs to use her rear more and get off the forehand. When he gets her to do a four beat gait she should be much smoother.

I have one, once they are in the correct gait, it's very smooth. Rider will barely move. This mare is pacey.
