Timbale rhythm break intro for Anabacoa by Pio Leiva

Very cool rhythm break featuring timbales and congas. This video shows the timbale part. The conga part is identical, probably minus the ruff and flams.
This is a break I like to teach my students. I didn't write out any sticking as I feel this break is simple enough and whatever is most comfortable is what is probably the best. You could argue that the easiest sticking is left hand on low timbal, right hand on high timbal. Whatever works!

what is the purpose of the electrical tapes at the mouth of the cow bells...

The tape helps with tone and reduces the ring of the bell. Lately, however I don't muffle my bells at all. I like the pure tone of the bell and in live situations they cut through better.

got you kelly...yes it is called "muffle" like muffler of a car to reduce or eliminate sound...just wondering for years now..i saw the Santana band timbales mufffling their bells... the sound differs depends on where the stick strikes or hit the bell...a very nice tip..thank you very much KELLY...

hello again kelly..noticed there are 2 cow bells and 1 block..what are the sizes of the 2 bells and what is the pitch of the plastic block low or high....is these 3 are the standard with the timbales?
