This is how i pack my camping food in my car fridge, it's something that needs thinking about.
In this video, i show you how i use plastic containers to pack my food in my 12 volt car fridge for camping trips.
I find they stack in either your car fridge or food box so much easier than just throwing those same food items in your car fridge or camp box.
If you are going away on longer camping trips, how you pack your camping food can either be very easy when it's time to prepare a meal, or it can be a nightmare.
Camping should be easy and simple. Food containers certainly make life very easy when it comes to packing your 12volt car fridge and food box.
I freeze my food that needs to go in my 12 volt car fridge a couple of days before i go.
Meat will pack inside the containers so easily before it is frozen, and food items like pasta or rice wont spill inside your camp box if they are placed inside a snap lock container.
I really like the food containers I'm now using, and thats how to pack food for camping without any hassles.
How do you pack your 12volt car fridge for camping trips?

We find we're taking less food stocks now days especially if you're going through small towns every 3-4 days. We try and spend some money in these smaller towns to help give them a leg up and ultimately help keep their shops open. Yes they are slightly more expensive but we're saving on accomodation every night so it's no biggy. We stock up naturally if we remote camp for extended periods.

I don't tend to need a menu/list for meals for short solo camping, but it's a great idea for longer /group trips. Taking it a state further you can laminate a list of everything that should be in each camp box and included it in the box. Then use a chinograph pencil or similar to make notes on each list as to what needs replacing, adding to, or otherwise amending before the next trip.

Just got home from our first 4WD camping trip in the High Country, camped two nights. Both the missus and I drove Billy Goat, Cynthia Range, Brewery Creek, Basalt Knob and Blue Rag all the way to the camp site at the bottom, crossing the river and up over the tree root exit all without a single problem. Driving a stock driveline, manual 4.5 petrol 80s Series, with a two inch lift, 31inch A/Ts. Had an absolute blast, and we pretty much nailed the “what to bring” list straight off the bat. Save for a few items we’ve listed for next time, like sealed Ice Blocks instead of bagged ice, wood splitter and a stainless mixing bowl. I put our very solid preparation, (vehicle, safety and camping) all down to watching your videos Tim! Really enjoy your minimalist way of doing things without compromising on comfort or safety. And showing us 4WD camping newbys, you can have an awesome experience with less then a 20k investment including buying a 4WD and all the camping, safety and maintenance gear to go with it! I’ve gotta say I was pretty proud of the old unlocked 80 getting up the Blue Rag river crossing exit first time with ease, especially after seeing a 140k 200 series destroy a CV on the exact spot, and a V8 Y61 Patrol take 3 or 4 cracks at on another KZbin channel a few months back! We were talking about improving our food storage on the drive home, and bang what do you know, you wack this up! Keep up the brilliant content mate, your influence reaches more then you know!

Hey Timbo, great vid mate with some good ideas. I am a big fan of the menu idea; I am going on a small trip this weekend and I like to plan ahead also. The truckies amongst us will love the idea of first in, last out . I used that when I had an Evakool Icebox, as you don't wanna rip it all apart until you need it. I recently saw a good idea re spices - they used a 7 day pill case, so 7 different herbs and spices. I like to VacPac my meat as it's squishy and fits in, and like your spagbol, you can drop it in the hot water in the bag to heat it up. Oh, and I have bought your steamer basket for the camp vegies too. Cheers mate.

A vacuum sealer is great for meat (especially when marinating it) and for saving space. I also like using the large ice cube trays that make the big cubes that are good for spirits on the rocks. Each cube is just the right size to fill with mince for smash burgers (about 85g) or for frozen sauce portions and they stack easily. Using them as they are intended to make actual big ice cubes is also good for your drinks - we know you like your G and Ts! Good tip to put the meat in the plastic containers before freezing it, that’s caught me out before.

Great video Tim, I myself have a few containers for fresh veg and cheese, the rest I use my vacuum sealer it’s great the bags are strong you can boil premade meals in them so no washing up and less mess. But the main reason is they save space in my freezer and the vacuum sealer keeps them fresh and no freezer burn especially if I’ve made premade meals several weeks earlier. Anyway mate I am one of your subscribers and enjoy your videos and scenery and tips, keep the videos coming mate there rippers.

Great video! You've pretty much shown my freezer / fridge set up. . . I mainly use clip lids so the lid doesn't pop open. (I have 2 x Engels in my car) . . . Packing meat before freezing is the best trick I ever learnt. . . If I don't fill all my containers in the freezer, I fill them with an ice brick. (I have multiple sized containers that stack perfectly in the Engel basket leaving the bottle section free for freezable beverage additives 🤪) . . . 😁 Oh and my oil in a jam jar sits in a disposable coffee cup to catch drips..

I like to carry my oil in those 300ml mini coke bottles. Seals amazing and theyre tough as. I love to get rid of the plastic trays meat comes in when you buy from woolies and put them in zip lock bag. If you're using an esky or trying to save every bit of battery, freeze them before hand and they help act as ice blocks, just pull them out a few hours before your meal. Bonus is when you only use up a portion of the meat you can easily re seal. I have pre cooked spaghetti sauce and put them in a zip lock back and just reheat them kinda like a sous vide when cooking the pasta. The reusable containers are great but with my particular fridge the extra width from the handles and thickness totally throws my packing off.

I usually cryovac meals. Everything from meat to soups (pre-freeze in a container before cryovacing) even cooked pasta and rice. Saves the need for carrying so much water. If you cryovac in individual portions, you can eat it out of the bag and only have to utensils to wash. Not much of an issue for a weekend up the HC, but for remote, where water is a scare resource, cryovacing can't be beat. And then pitch the empty bags into the fire for disposal. Nah, disagree with you mate. There is a plastic bag inside the weetbix box. The box is flimsy and is no good for stacking. If it gets wet, the whole lot is cactus. Just look at the plastic box Tim uses - it is half the size, and can be reused indefinitely. Mind you, he is packing for only one person, so there are other problems with using a million suckerware containers when travelling with a family. There are good arguments for and against some of the ideas presented. We just need to consider them all and use what works best for us. Tim does a great job discussing important 4x4 and camping tips.
