Gday Hugo, Mate the plastic camping boxes have so many benefits as you have found out. The different coloured boxes works really well, rather than all the same colour. @@timbates4wdadventures hah yes although mine are all black! I’ll be putting labels on them today. After removing my drawers and some other things I realised I never used, I’m down 75kg. Mate, that is a lot in an FJ Cruiser! And the best thing is I have heaps more space now to sleep inside. Ironically I got drawers because everyone has them and thought it must be the way to go.. turns out they actually take up heaps of space without adding much efficiency, and they’re fixed so it’s a permanent camping setup in the car, plus the weight.. One other question I had, do you have a video on tire pressures? Some tips and tricks.. maybe in the future? Cheers mate

Fab organisation. I use a photographer's backpack for all my cooking gear, including a fabric sink. Light and compact but no camp oven as yet. I have two small but tall tubs for my pantry, one takes cans and tinfoil, the other has spreads, bread, dry biscuits, herbs condiments, flour and sauces. Just keeps the weight down for easy handling for me, also fits in my boot well. I have storage bags for tent pegs etc but I have designated places that stuff goes into my boot, for easy access. Behind the front passenger seat is my 15 litre fridge. very small table and compact light kitchen bench and camp stool, go on the back seat, behind the passenger seat, held in place with a seat belt. I have a lithium battery that goes in the passenger footwell that runs my fridge. Very basic,but works for me.

I appreciate draws are better for others, but I like to pull out the separate boxes at camp and have everything there on hand. I fixed sections of 25mm aluminium angle to the false floor to guide the boxes into place so they don’t move when travelling, and run a ratchet strap over the stacked ones to recessed tie-down points. When I close the tailgate it just kisses the 3rd box [food, so relatively light] and stops it moving. Nice video and channel, I’ve just discovered it fortunately at the time when I want to go solo camping in the VHC in my mistibushi delica van. A couple of question for you, what do you do for refrigeration and on a filming thing how do you do your elevated and top down camera shots . I presume in this one it was a pole off the top of your van but there have been other of high angle campsite view that have me stumped. Thought you might use the drone but the shots too stable and no their is no noise from it. I’m going to enjoy going through your back catalogue and make a list of tracks and campsites to visit…

You've come up with a really awesome rear setup for a Patrol. I'll be copying a lot of it, so thanks for the inspiration. You've made upgrades to your aluminium security mesh cargo barrier since your "Customising My GU PATROL Interior" video (you've put a frame around it and a middle supporting bar). Did you DIY, or take it to a fabricator? Did you make any content on this process? I've been watching your videos for ages, but haven't noticed you discussing this.
@timbates4wdadventures9 ай бұрын
Gday mate, That’s great you have found setup in the back of my Patrol helpful for setting up your Patrol. With the mesh screen. I cut the mesh out myself and took it to a metal fabricator to weld the strengthen frame around it. It’s not an approved cargo barrier, that’s why I haven’t filmed it. Thanks mate, I greatly appreciate your feedback Cheers Tim

Lots of food for thought there batesey! I have spent a shitload of time and money building my drawers so there would be a few tears if I removed them . . . . .but you'd be saving about 200kg without drawers and fridge slide I'd imagine. . . . . My 90 series Prado is a bit obese ATM . . . . Went over a weighbridge recently and was kinda shocked just how close to GVM I was . . . . And I wasn't even fully loaded for a trip . . . . . Think there might be some tears coming my way 🤣😂😅😜 Great vid as always mate 👍👌 keep up the great work

@timbates4wdadventures2 жыл бұрын
Gday Miss Liss Everyone thinks that drawers are the only option, but there’s other alternatives. Drawers are good, but they are heavy and in your car all the time. The boxes work fantastic, they are light weight and you can take them out when you get home until your next camp trip. The boxes are from Expedition 123 All Australian made. I’m glad you found this video helpful. Thanks a lot for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
@2eREPPARA Жыл бұрын
Aussie combat vet Hi Tim can you please tell me where you got those lidded boxes you have for kitchen/food storage
@karl48343 жыл бұрын
Those Expedition 134 boxes are stupid expensive...but I have two and love them. Unlike any other box I've used, completely dust and water proof. But more importantly, pest proof. After leaving my previous boxes outside at camp and finding critters in them the next day, I didn't want to eat anything from that box, hence my justification at paying the big dollars for a plastic box. Moreover, I have a NW Pajero and it has underfloor storage in the back where I put all my rarely used items, so a draw system would basically leave that spot useless, whereas being easily able to remove boxes on the rare occasion I might need tools or spares from under the rear floor makes my system more workable. As you note, Batesy, the different colours helps with organisation. I'm going to buy at least one more to better streamline my set-up and, due to their inherent strength and stackability, with 3 I can make them into a set of steps to reach hard to reach stuff on my roof rack when at camp.
@timbates4wdadventures3 жыл бұрын
G'day Karl, They do cost a bit of money, but you sure get quality with the boxes. The boxes are great and very easy to use., I really like them, thats for sure. Sounds like you have your Pajero well set up for your touring mate. Thanks heaps for your feedback. Cheers Tim

Great video, thanks for sharing your setup 👍 great usage of space in the lid. So the inner layer of the lid is somehow removable? Can't see the cords from outside, so you must have pulled them in somewhere inbetween? We're running a cabin on a Defender and use open plastic boxes inside the drawers and shelfes to keep things bundled and organized. Need to wrap stuff in towels to minimize rattle noises. Works a treat 👍
@timbates4wdadventures3 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, Using the lid for storage is very handy for what i keep in that space. I drilled holes through the plastic ribs and threaded the cord through and pulled tight so it holds those items in place. Stopping rattles is great if you can pack things in between with towels ect. Top idea. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers Tim.

Great ideas Tim! I similarly used boxes this way. Besides keeping things together, it improved my packing skills whilst disciplining me from packing too much (mainly because I drove a Suzuki Sierra for some years :). For cooking and coffee making, I used a Trangia, and although not as much fun as lighting a fire, it reduced my cooking equipment down to 20/25cm square. Included the pan, pot, kettle, handle, fuel container, stand etc. It was super light and made for hiking as well. Love the lid idea! Thanks again for sharing.
