Up late scrolling thru KZbin n seen your video. I worked on the navy tugs YTB-790 and YTB-791 in 1992-94. I worked in the engine room. Was really nice seeing your video below deck and how nice the engine room was on that tug. The ones I was on had the 10cyl fairbanks Morris engine with 2 6-71 Detroit engine as generator n sane engine as a fire pump engine. Really miss those days. Your video brought back alot of memories but so much nicer than the 3 shades of gray I remember.

They still moving freight rail across from Staten Island to Brooklyn by Barge? I know there was a run from Alabama to Mexico which i would argue is a wee bit further but certainly would validate in the matter of the latter. Put a picture of one of the 2 SpaceX Barges if you want to impress the natives and impress upon those who might be watching "the future is now." Hard to imagine the old coal burning days of yore for New York Harbor but the truly awesome size of this body of water never ceases to amaze. I can see why Cornelius Vanderbilt set up Railroads thinking of that old type of shipping and handling! Imagine running a Railroad without air brakes tho!

So that must be the Combined output of both of the Clatterpillar 3512s? - I know you said have 3516's on your "4200" - I have wrenched on the "Little Brother" 3408/3412 in smaller installations, the 3400 series was the largest of "Road Going Heavy Haul Truck Engines" (600hp-1000hp back in the 80's)......I have had 3500 series parts in my hands, when I would deliver them to other crews for generators and whatnot. - On a Side Note, you should see 3600 series pistons, they are about same size as a *5 Gallon Bucket!* (The 3616 has ratings up to 8000hp - could you imagine TWO of those in your Vessel! - SUPER HOT ROD - You'd need to tow a fuel barge just for the TUG engines, LOL, they'd drink about 400 gallons an hour each! - Looks like 3516 @ 2100hp is "only" 100 gallons an hour, makes sense 1/4 the power, 1/4 the fuel! - Of course the 3616 weighs almost 4x as much too! 70,000lbs vs. 18,000lbs)

@@TimBatSea I have been watching your videos for some time, though it has been a while since I have watched some....I know you don't mention names, I know in some of your earlier days you would call out your Vessel's name on the radio, I may have accidentally (not knowing better) commented the name, I am sorry...I hope you didn't get in trouble over that! - I will NOT do it again...There are resources that have lists of all the Vessels that company owns... Very Awesome that Y'all celebrated 125 Years this year...

Does your new tug have Kort nozzles? Do you find that boats with nozzles handle differently?
@TimBatSea Жыл бұрын
Yes and no! Thank you for watching. The 3000s are open wheel boats. And yes, boats with kort nozzles hand much differently. I've done a couple videos about the difference. CUOTO

1. Why do you call it wire as opposed to cable ? 2. Have you ever been on any of the Foss tugs on the west coast ?
@TimBatSea Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Michael. I believe it comes from it's official name "wire rope". No, I've never worked for Foss but I have always heard good things about them. CUOTO

@@TimBatSea I'm a rigger, and we call it cable or AC for aircraft cable. Cheers, I enjoy your content

Over 300 times in one day of blue fishing I was told that a boat is not a SHIP... Drunk and retired Navy guy said this to us over and over again...
