Really nice to see the plans, and great explanations to help all followers. (good tip to laminate them, as they get ruined quickly onsite).

Darren, will a sheet of DPC be useful between the timber stud and the existing wall before you chemfix?

Interesting to see a timber frame construction for a change. Don't know why it's not used more in this country.

Was just wondering how do you fix the cement board and render the left hand side off exstention as it look like the neighbouring fence made up off concrete panels and posts and looks like it's a tiny gap ... was also wondering the walls look very high as you got to put rafters on top off the frame work does that not take you over the height off the need for local planning inspectors ... just wondering as thinking off doing same sort off build .. cheers great vids

hey Darren, love the work. Please explain why you use nails and not screws? thank you
@peterkwameosei-bonsu6135
@peterkwameosei-bonsu6135 Жыл бұрын
Nails have the ability to twist and bend with shear/lateral forces without snapping whereas screws will bend a couple of times and then snap! So with timber frame construction, nails are specified. There are construction grade timber fixing screws that can be used but they’re more expensive than nails

is this build cheaper than traditional double block with cavity and render extension?
@mustakimbuilds
@mustakimbuilds Жыл бұрын
@@pkpropertysolutionsltd701 Overall, traditional still the cheapest then? Or labour cost considerably outweighs material therefore the alternatives cheaper?

shame the design shows a cold bridge :( the insulation should be linked between roof and walls.
@darrenthebuilder
@darrenthebuilder Жыл бұрын
It is linked? Where’s the bridge? The wall insulation go right up into the roof void.
@j4ck888

@@darrenthebuilder 3:16 - shows external wall build up, 20mm internal wall air gap links directly to the cross flow ventilation void (external air temp). The aim is for a continuous thermal envelope, the walls as designed will do little to retain heat. Tricky to build as it is, but I'm sure you can get over this on site - ask the Building Control surveyor or throw back to the designer.

Guess it all comes down to cost over use. Darren seems to build more block and brick buildings than timber framed ones.
