That turned out really well. Good colour contrast between the face and the wood mount. I seem to remember reading on a visit to a museum in Florence that the measuring technique you used for the face is similar to how Italians sculptors use to make statues. They would make a small plaster version then when carving the bigger marble one they had tools to measure the reference one and that would give them to dimensions for the big sculpture .

I think you're right, they used to use a thing called a pointing machine to take measurements from a reference sculpture onto something like wood or stone.

It turned out so cool! My first thought for an animal in the same style would be a woodpecker. I think an oni mask or samurai could be awesome as well.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. I was quite surprised with the outcome to be honest, I didn't realise the features would be so discernable from the rest of the wood.

The pronounciation sounded fine to me Clint.Yes she was King Alfreds daughter and pivotal in shaping the kingdom of England ,her name by the way, means 'noble beauty' Truly that is a masterpiece you have created there Clint.loved every minute of this video mate.

Ah thanks mate! I knew I could rely on you for some Saxon knowledge. By the way, I've bought a book called 'Anglo Saxon Myths - The Struggle for the Seven Kingdoms' by Brice Stratford and I'm loving it. I dunno if you're into the mythology/folklore side of the Saxons but if you are, it's a good read I reckon.

I like the Clint-o-Matic Clay Softener - much better than my dipping plasticine in hot water which gets too hot and burns me when I try to use it. Only two minutes in but enjoying this a lot. But get your hair cut, you scruff.

@ClintRoseCarving 5 күн бұрын
Haha yeah the clay softener works well, just has the potential to make lava. Just for that I'm gonna grow my hair extra long and extra scruffy next time.
