Hey William wish I would have seen this video before doing the timbermate fill on my body, should have used a sealer first like you did.

Would you do the same action here if you wanted to dye the wood to see the grain?
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars11 жыл бұрын
I use a wood sealer first then timbermate then a berrier coat once all is leveled. I use target coating products.
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars11 жыл бұрын
You can use imbermate on the mahogany but it isnt necessary for the alder. I use wood sealer first then the filler it seems to help. Sand from 120-220-320

How many coats of timbermate did you use?
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars3 ай бұрын
@@mauricelavergne3434 I think at least 2. Or until it was filled.

All swampash gets grain filled when bring prepped for final finish. All wood grts wood sealer as well so tonally wr wouldnt know if it effects tone since noone builds a bare wood body. Even if you usedaminimal amount of say danush oil your still covering the wood fibres. Fender used to dip theifullerplast. bodies in i

I'm trying to paint my guitar this winter and I want a solid black color without the grain showing. I want to paint the back and sides black and glue a nice veneer I have on top. I can't figure out which paint and wood grain filler to use. I already purchased wipe on poly and india ink. I also have tru-oil but I think poly might be easier to remove with a heat gun if I make a mistake. What would you suggest to use in winter for someone without a workshop and trying to keep the house without too much toxic smell. Will Timbermate Wood Filler work with india ink and wipe on poly? Some people are saying that it does not work with water based dyes because the Wood Filler comes out when the dye is applied.

How do get the grain filler off..I'm doing a natural finish and after removing paint that stuff is all over the place and all the sanding in the world doesn't seem to help
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars8 жыл бұрын
you may need a paint remover to help. If it is a deep grain it will take some work.

Hey man i have a question I'm doing a project and I want to have a solid white color on the neck and body. So the body is alder and the neck is mahogany do I need any grain filling or straight to priming? If yes what do I do first grain sealing or grain filling first and after what number grit sandpaper?
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars11 жыл бұрын
U started to do a couple applications of sealer first it seemed to reduce any shrinking from the filler.

Hi and thanks for following. I believe you can, Stewmac has a video as well and they show a blue metallic finish from a spray bomb which I believe is lacquer

i read all the comments with people asking what he used for sealer before using the timbermate but he does not say , maybe just a lacquer or shellac might be it.

don't wood sealer and grain filler affect the tone ?
@z4ckncheese8 жыл бұрын
Switchdoktor not even a little bit. Neither does body or neck wood, fretboard wood, tuners or stainless steel frets

What do you use as a sealer before the timbermate ?
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars8 жыл бұрын
I use a waterbased wood sealer for instrumants

+Bill Scheltema ok, so water based sealer...then timbermate....and then nitro ?? Will that work well ??
@lamborn558 жыл бұрын
Most would suggest a white primer that is shellac based like the zinsser.

@@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars Prepping swamp ash is a job. I just completed the process of filling, sealing, and leveling a swamp ash P bass body for a dirty white blonde lacquer finish. For the amount of time, work and volume of materials to get that much done I think I could have just about completely painted two alder P bass bodies in sonic blue or one of those other pre-CBS solid colors.

@@YTPartyTonight I hear you, nothing like a tighter grained wood, even poplar finishes easier.

Altering any part of a guitar will create a corresponding change in the timbre / voicing of said instrument. The thing to keep in mind is, that some alterations create large changes in tone and others produce negligible changes. For instance: grain filler or anything to do with finishing the body, will have a negligible effect on the instruments timbre, but change the nut from plastic to bone or brass and you will hear the difference.
@infinite912711 жыл бұрын
The most dramatic way by far to change a guitars tone / timbre is to install a different pickup. Frankly I'm not convinced that a guitars body material has much effect on tone, I can however see how the body material will affect sustain though.
