You got this Kaelyn and as someone else already told you, the committee -- especially the Chair -- will not let you schedule the examination IF they do not see you capable of passing it ✨I was done with my comps & proposal defense/submission almost 3 years ago after an unexpected delay due to the loss of my original Chair who was a "father-figure" for me and passed due to Cancer situation. It was emotionally, mentally, and academically devastating. I had to rearrange the committee and everything and do the exams when the pandemic hit! So, I understand the stress and pressure of the process well but as mentioned earlier YOU got this "friend"! Be well & Take care 🦋🍀

Working in environmental science - a lot of biologists, me included, deal with anxiety from climate change and people seemingly not listening to concerns from both us and communities. I know it's not the same, but on some emotional level I sympathize with your situation and hope that you find a healthy outlet to work through them at your own pace. Sending love!

it is soooo tough when you are researching extremely heavy subjects, but vital that we don't forget what has happened in the past! Wishing you all the best as you wrap up comp exams and move on to the process of working on your dissertation xx

thanks for discussing the hardships and deep discomfort of researching a difficult subject. As a linguist who focused on Psycholinguistics, I don't have to face this challenge anymore, but I used to when I did my B.A in psychology, and wow it was really hard to have this much material on such heavy subjects. I can now affirm that when the material is not as heavy emotionally, I can do so much more.

I have been binge watching your videos lately, and I appreciate your vulnerability in mentioning the imposter syndrome you feel. I am a 2nd year PhD student studying Neuroscience and at the beginning stages of defining my project. Imposter syndrome has peaked my anxiety for the last month, and knowing that I'm not alone is immensely relieving. Thank you for your inspiring content! It has helped me in more ways than one.

Can you please do a video dedicated to your mind mapping process?? Also would still love a bookshelf and artwork tour! Your background is the best! Lastly, thank you for being vulnerable but you are so brilliant and such an inspiration to so many! I know easier said than done but, never doubt yourself!

I hope your exam went well! I’m in my last year of my master’s and the imposter syndrome is major!! I keep telling myself that there is a reason I was accepted into my program and that reason is because I belong in it and I belong in the field I am going into. I hope you’re taking time for self care :)

Thank you for showing all the emotional ups and downs of the PhD journey. Also, I would be interested to know more about the first question you mentioned at the 7:30min mark. Could you please suggest some further readings on the use of biography in the telling of women's histories and the use of biography as a method? This topic sounds fascinating and it is something I am considering looking at with a future Masters thesis. Thank you.

Those are some tough topics to cover, and I can see why you are having some difficulty processing them. We are our own worst critics. I have a major case of imposter syndrome, and sometimes almost let it dictate my educational path. You have done amazing so far, and you will continue to do well.

I can definitely agree with you. Its emotional hard being a historian and then learning all of the history its sad and yet it makes me angry at the same time. I'm in a constant of anger the more I learn.

Kaelyn you are literally doing so amazing (I saw on your Tik Tok the amazing news about Comps! You make us all so proud!) But to be emotionally exhausted is just beyond valid. Sending nothing but healing and restorative vibes to you.

Not the impostor syndrome hitting you hard. Looking back, maybe I was not addressing the impostor syndrome I had and I was so hard on myself once that I burst out crying and couldn’t seem to stop. I did well but just being kinder to myself felt tougher.

In Sociology, you have to write about subjects that are deeply triggering (for me sometimes) but it’s hard to compartmentalise/desensitise and not yet have all the FEELZ.
