Remove those apples. You want the young trees to focus on growth the first couple of years. Apples allowed to fruit too young will come at the cost of growth. The entire tree drooping is also a sign it isn't strong enough. You want the tree to be strong enough to weather a storm while laden with fruit.

We have added 14 blueberry bushes to our land a few at a time and our experience has been that the first year they are covered with berries like yours but he next year, the bush takes the year off. So don’t count on any berries next year. Unless you add two more new plants 😜 Hope your fig does well! We have planted 4 so far and three didn’t make it. Last year, I put one in a huge pot on my porch and it did well over the winter. I’m going to try planting it out this year….wish me luck!

Linda here…consider using that propane torch to char wood that you can use for raised beds and similar applications. There’s a name for it that escapes me but Ben at The Hollar Homestead does it. I think it’s a Japanese art/method to preserve wood/prevent rotting.

The Inferno has a few more uses. One . If you planning on burying fence posts ,charring the lower part of said post will slowdown if not stop ground rot. Exploding vole tunnels. Melting holes in landscape fabric.

When we covered our blueberry bushes with bird netting, within 1 day we had both a bird and a snake get tangled in it. We switched to tulle. You can also use tulle to just wrap the clusters of berries or even use tulle bags (Amazon). What a beautiful rooster! I hope he ends up being a good fit for your flock💕

For our mental health, moving the poultry netting has been decreed to be a two person job at our place with one person at the top and one at the bottom of each pole. Also we found some black poles on Amazon that you can create a turn in between the white poles or use to add tension (our land is rough and uneven too).

Hello Sean, it’s early in the video, but if I don’t say it when it comes up, I forget it. Acid soil is enhanced by pine straw or needles. I only started calling it pine straw when I moved from Oregon to North Carolina in 1999. I only know this because in Oregon they grow 100’s of acres of blueberries in the northwestern part of the state. They heap the rows of plants with sawdust from the mills there. This being said, the majority of sawdust is from softwood like pine, hemlock, and red or Douglas fir. I actually planted my blueberries next to a row of old established pine trees

Blueberries are a cousin to Azalea. You can use Azalea fertilizer. Yes Blueberries like acidic soil. You can sprinkle some coffee grounds but remember coffee grounds are high in nitrogen. I would put the coffee grounds on your compost and use the compost on your Blueberries.

A few years ago I bought thornless blackberries from Stark Bros. They are delicious but they spread by runners and are taking over the yard. Clearly they are taking their cues from the mint! Sending hugs and blessings.

Why don't you make a chicken compost like Billy at Perma pastures uses. Then you can leave the original where it is and make new with the chickens. Or you can use your smaller movable coop and move the Breese within the fence to clean up different areas and then winter in the barn, either would do all you want. Check out Living Traditions Homestead, they have the Breese and have lots of tips and tricks for them. They say they are amazing for free ranging and doing compost as well.

It's a shame the net didn't reach. I think moving the compost pile would be difficult and oerhaps another net would be better plus having extra net can always come in useful. I think Lenny is definitely interested in the wild turkey hen 😂😂 Flame thrower is a very useful tool to have. Someone else suggested the Japanese burning method and I have seen that used elsewhere to great effect.

i use tulle to cover all my fruit trees and bushes. Dirt cheap on eBay and fairly cheap at fabric stores. I got 100 yards on eBay for 20.00. Happy Mother's Day to all three Mom's and please thank your Dad for his service!

In regards to the thornless blackberry perhaps you could propagate it by layering a branch and placing the node onto some curated compost and pinning it down with a tent peg, rock or similar. When it strikes you can move it to where you want your blackberry patch to go.

Both coffee grounds and pine needles adding acidity to the soil is a myth. Peat and orange peals would work better or for a more reliable result use a high nitrogen fertilizer. Chicken manure is a good one ;)

For the best pruning advice tune in to older David The Good’s videos. The more you cut them back in winter the more vigorous the plants will grow in spring. “A” blackberry is not a patch. You need at least ten plants to produce enough for a couple cobblers and a few jars of jam. Primocane varieties are the best and fruit first and second year on the same canes. To propagate, bend the cane tip over and plant in soil or pots. After a few months you can cut them off the main plant and still get a harvest. ADD MULBERRIES! So many fun varieties and very quick growing and prolific. A breeze to start from cuttings. Dwarf Everbearing is a favorite here. Space 10 feet apart and keep pruned head high for years of fruit.

Dont use coffee grounds, as you make coffee, the acid ends up in the coffee and not left in the grounds. He told me to keep the spent leftover coffee in a half gallon jar. when it is half full add water to the top. Water each of your blueberries a couple of times , in the winter with this.By this time, the fruiting process is in progress and it works to prepare the plants in the off season, but I suppose youcan try it now. It has worked for us every year forabout 10 years. Ido nothing more than this. He said, no grounds, tey form a crust around the base of your plants and interferewithnwater getting to them. We havea bumpercrop each year with med plantsenough to freezeforfresh eating for2 over winter. Weare lucky however, the bushes are within 3 feet of our patio cover and houseand birds seem tofear getting that close to the house so nets arent really needed. We lose a few, but not much. Goodluck. PS- pine needesmaresomewhat acidic, but notvery much.

I have a propane burner tool and set the tank on a dolly. Works great for many uses. I use it for weed control but it doesn't seem to burn the roots so the weed will come back eventually. still safer than chemicals.

Shou sugi , the Japanese burning technique would be a good use for the flame thrower. It preserves the wood, good for raised beds and other outdoor wood projects when you aren't using treated wood products. I just got a premier fence myself and our issue is the sagging because our land is not flat. We are adding more support post we have already, so it makes it harder to move often. I'm getting 25 new chicks from McMurray this week and a lot of prep going into how we will Integrate them into our small flock. I will keep the newbies in the brooder about 5 wks. We permantly attached our chicken tractor to our shed/barn where we built the coop. The tractor made it from our garage where it was built to the barn, it was way too heavy and large. 11 x 14, I think. My thoughts too about the ants with the inferno lol also, it will come in handy when it's time to do a controlled burn with your blueberry bushes every few years! Coffee grounds are great for any berries and your compost pile as well. We also dried out and crushed up (to a powder) eggshells, it's beneficial for the soil and to your fowl as a supplement in the winter months.

Be careful. They get your turkeys used to them and slowly encourage them to go further away until they have joined the wild turkeys. They took 10 of my heritage turkeys. I only got one back

Not trying to be a know it all, but I did want to warn you that planting your thornless blackberry next to the wild one is problematic. First, you don’t want them to cross pollinate, and secondly, if they are planted close together the wild blackberry can contaminate the soil with disease and wipe out any plant in the blackberry family that you planted. It is actually recommended not to plant blackberries where wild ones have grown for five years after they are removed in order for the diseases to die out.
