So much has changed for me over the past 4 years and I had something come up that I initially did not expect within the last year. I didn't share it right away for various reasons, but it ended up making me feel like I was neglecting to share my full weight loss story. On top of that I have been struggling with a few other things that I just needed to share with you all and provide you with the full picture. Hope this all makes sense and explains a few things. Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement, even when I am struggling!

James, In the 10 years that I’ve known you, I’ve always thought that you were an amazing person. Maybe you haven’t thought of yourself as “dateable” but it definitely goes deeper than appearance, it goes down to what’s on the inside. You mentioned you’re a man of faith, and I’ve always known you to be one, and a lot of people respect that. I’m not even religious, and I respect it, you’ve always had such a kind soul, always had a joke to share, something nice to say, your laughter always filled the room. Don’t ever think of yourself as anything less, especially now. If I ever find out that you do think of yourself as anything less, I will personally find you and have a stern talking to with you.

So cool to see a comment from you Kaija! When I was looking for photos of me from High School I almost pulled the one of me eating Cheetos with a FORK! Instantly remembered that moment HAHA. Thank you for always seeing so much good in me, even when I was blind to seeing any of those qualities as being enough. I sure have made a lot of changes in my life over the past four years and it is really hard to believe this is all real at times. Hopefully I won't need that stern talk anytime again soon! Thank you, you're awesome!

Mate I have nothing but respect for you.Brother, the teacher is always silent during the test. I am going to pray for you daily. I have always struggled with addiction born from 10 years of bullying through school, and being diagnosed with Autism in my mid 30's. I know how it is when The Lord feels distant. What you are feeling is so normal. Your self diagnoses is phenomenal, and you can rationalise to the nth degree. You got this man! Stay strong and God bless!1

So happy that you now feel worthy enough to share your sweet self with someone else. You don’t owe anyone all of the information and you don’t have to share those private parts of yourself on your channel. What you do share is helping others, I have no doubt. Another thought...maybe you aren’t hearing God as loudly as before because He knows the answers and guidance you seek are already within you? Perhaps he is silently supporting you as you look inside to access what you already know? Keep the faith..in yourself as well. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your journey with us, including your faith journey. God is still with you, and be encouraged that so many Biblical figures go through long periods where God doesn't speak (think about Moses' story - 40 years hanging out with his wife and father-in-law before being given direction to go back to Egypt, or about Paul who goes back to Tarsus after his Damascus experience). There is space to grow and to continue to practice your faith in those moments of silence. I'm glad that you're making progress and that you are exploring new parts of your life, and I hope that you're able to choose your content confidently!

I understand how there are times in our lives that we are "dry" and it seems like God is far away. I know your heart and who you have put your trust in for a very long time. I felt the exact same way about relationships. It was just something that I felt was definitely not going to be a part of my future in any way, partly due to the weight and partly due to other mental health stuff. Eventually, after working on myself for the past 2-3 years, I had the same sudden realization that you did. That...it might be possible now? I'm still not really dating, but that's been such a huge boost for me, realizing that.

The teacher is always silent during the test. Friend, God sometimes goes quiet just to see what you will do. Don’t stop doing what God has put on your heart today, especially when it’s hard. It happens to me too, but it doesn’t mean you’re failing. Mountains get steeper the higher up we go on them. You’re just feeling changes because you’re in a different place. When you’re a mess and in denial, you don’t see yourself clearly. When you start to clean up the mess and do see yourself more clearly, you also have to come to terms with where you were (and that’s hard). But do it! You are not alone.

"Dang, you might actually be able to date ..." James, yes. A man or woman who works on him- or herself is a catch. You have put in the physical, spiritual and emotional work. You know yourself better, you believe in yourself more, you can love another person in ways and with a depth you wouldn't have before you began this journey. You are bright, you are passionate and curious, you are kind-hearted, resilient and brave (and bravely vulnerable). And yes, you are cute as can be. Hey James! It's nice to hear where you're at and how you're doing! I'll admit, your confession about feeling a sort of disconnect from God really stood out to me. I'm Catholic and there's a belief that we have that may address that feeling of abandonment. It's called the dark night of the senses, which then leads to the dark night of the soul. It's pretty intense stuff, but the (very surface-level) gist of it is that God intentionally is "silent" so to help you grow stronger in your love of and communion with Him. Obviously, most of the teachings about it are from saints, and it can be pretty difficult to relate to the saints, but it's important to also consider that God speaks to each person differently. While it's easy to downplay personal experiences, your faith is your own and you alone know if there's been some sort of shift. I think it's interesting food for thought at the very least. It's also interesting to me that I just recently learned about this and then your video came out addressing something similar (call it coincidence or providence). Anyway, you know where to reach me if you'd like to talk, but otherwise keep up the good work!
@JamesJansen
@JamesJansen 3 жыл бұрын
While I am not Catholic I do find this very interesting and the timing is pretty impeccable haha. From all the advice I have been given about this, I have gathered that at least I know I am not the only one to experience this and that it can just be a time for me to grow even though I feel so lost half the time. You certainly have given me a different take on the matter and I really appreciate that Kaylee. Thank you and I hope you have been well :)

Hey James! Firstly I just want to say that its very brave to share that kind of personal stuff with your audience, all things considered, and I hope everyone respects your wishes for privacy. If you don't mind though I'll share some updates of my own! I've been doing exactly as I said I would in my last comment on your last video, and started jogging every weekday. I've actually improved quite a bit, my heart rate and blood pressure have all improved and I've lost about 4 pounds! It's been quite a learning journey on how to properly run+warmup, which shoes work best and how to fuel up before a run to really get the best from it. Also, on the more faith based side... If its not too much, I'll share a tad of my experience with that. I hope it doesn't change your opinion of me, but I 'used' to be Christian myself. I had gone through a similar journey as you are now, where you felt like you had a path, you had a purpose - and suddenly things just kinda went silent, and after things went silent, I started to question as well. After I began questioning, I searched for answers from people and sources I normally found answers from, and found their answers... lacking. It didn't feel substantial enough, it didn't feel real anymore. I don't want to get into too much detail in a comment, but it took a period of about 3 years before I finally decided to move on. Now, I'm definitely not saying thats what you should do, or what will happen to you - but that in times like this, where a core belief is being questioned, is when you need to really research and dig deep to find the right answer. Almost 10 years looking back on that time, I'm actually very happy with my choice to move away from religion in general. All I'm saying is, I know how important it is for you - so definitely take it seriously and make sure you surround yourself with people who will give you honest answers and advice so that you move forward with confidence! But also don't rush things, you have your whole life ahead of you to decide what to believe - and I'm sure you know that no matter what happens, you will be loved no matter what you choose. Speaking of love - I can also relate on what you mean when you say you didn't feel worthy of a relationship or having someone feel that strongly about you. I spent many years feeling that way about myself without really addressing it or talking to anyone about it. I felt that way even when I was dating too, I constantly just thought "What do you see in me? Why are you wasting your time?" Even though I was happy they were spending time with me or that I made a new friend, it's like I could never accept it. Heck in my mind I couldn't imagine what my life would be like married or in a family, I was convinced I'd never live to even see 30 years of age! But, you need to surround yourself with good people, people who listen and accept you for who you are - who genuinely like you and want the best for you, people who are happy to be around you. I found someone who thought of me like that, and even when we were together it took years of talking, long long hours over the phone, crying and writing letters before it was all out there. And she saw the value in me, she saw the value in 'us' and stuck by me. We've been together for 13 years now, married for 2, and I'll be 33 next year. You are absolutely worthy of being in a relationship, being loved and accepted regardless of your size, your faith or whats happened in your past - it might take you some time to accept and realize it all, but never give up on yourself or believing that someone out there will see that in you too! Keep up your journey James, keep doing your filming, your writing and passions - do what makes you smile, do what makes you happy, and surround yourself with people who want that same joy for you too.

I love to see updates from people on how they are doing. It is great to hear you are hitting your goals there! My opinion of you has changed, but only making it even better. I really appreciate your willingness to share your own experiences with me and anyone else who decides to read through these comments. Also the fact that you understand and respect how important it is too me. I really like to hear other perspectives that conflict with my point of view so that I can come to informed decisions myself. You are totally right that no matter what I believe in, I will always have people that love me. Thank you for also sharing your thoughts and experience with love. I am sure many people can relate to that feeling of not being good enough for someone and it is good to hear that it can be overcome. "Guess what i'm a cool stud now" 😂😂😂😂 That ending segment made me laugh! Congrats to you James for being more direct with yourself and expressing more about how you feel with your audience! Also I think it's important to mention this but it's ok! It's ok if you don't talk about dating or certain aspects that you're not ready to! Though you may feel pressure or guilt from not doing so in all honesty you don't owe the audience anything, even when they're extremely supportive! Either way i'm glad you were able to get these subjects off your chest and feel like you can come clean about how you feel. I think I found a good way of doing that here without making it too detailed. Thank you weepingblade!

When I don’t feel anything strongly from God, I assume I just need to continue on and wait for my next signs 💗🌈 i think you’re on the right track. And you definitely are attractive 😳💕

I have a question. What is the mind set you have to continue being consistent. I can be consistent for a couple of days but then mess up and eat like crap for a week then repeat.

When it comes to having slip ups, the mindset I hold is to just get right back to eating what I know is working for my current calorie restriction. That mistake of eating too many calories or eating something that wasn't on your plan is only one moment in your week/month. One meal or piece of food will not destroy a whole weeks worth of staying on track. So you can acknowledge your mistake, but also realize that it is not the end of it all and continue pressing on right away. The overall mindset I have is one that looks forward to all the things I want to accomplish in the future. A huge thing that got me started on my journey was my love of narrative filmmaking. I want to be able to make short films and hope that one day I can do it for a living. The biggest thing in my way at the time was my weight. Really inhibited my movement/energy and my ability to get certain shots. This is something that still keeps me on track to this day along with other things that I didn't even realize (Just overall health benefits and being able to live life). Also after eating a certain way for a long time, you start to form new habits. This will also make it easier to stay on your plan. I think I might talk about this a bit more in my next video, but eventually you get to a point where you don't even feel bad about eating foods off of your plan and realize that it will not throw off your overall progress. For the first time in about 4 years of being in a caloric deficit, I didn't feel bad for eating pumpkin pie at thanksgiving or having a glass of eggnog during our family Christmas Decorating Day. I just got to enjoy it and not feel any sense of shame. This is probably more of an answer than you bargained for, but I hope it helps nonetheless! Wishing you the best in your efforts to better your health and if you have any other questions, just let me know! You got this Helaman Seavy, much love!

Dating life will come your way but take it slow, don’t fall for the first girl that you date! A bad relationship will put you in a talespin to weight gain. You are still young so just enjoy meeting and dating people versus falling head over hills for the first one that comes your way. Im sure you will be quite the ladies man soon.

I was recently struggling similarly in my faith, and I highly recommend Not God Enough and What are you going to do with your life? by JD Greear. Both books (I’m not finished with the latter yet) have really helped me refocus and reignite my heart for God and discipleship! ☺️
