Fun fact: The Sonic Team (or a section of it) was working on a non-Sonic game (don't remember what it was called) which involved picking and throwing objects. Of course, the upper management was like "You should develop only Sonic games" so the whole project was scrapped. However, it didn't stop them from making a Sonic character that can pick and throw objects.
