The Midget is back from being sandblasted and put in primer. It is time to do something I have never done...block sanding and body filler. I am trying the dustless sanding system from Eastwood.
Thanks to Blastoff Restoration for doing such a great job.www.facebook.c...

Now the fun begins! Did I ever tell you how much I love block sanding? Your sandblasters did a great job. I know you're excited to get it to this phase.

In my younger days did that too. Think you were getting close to painting, then found out the lows and highs! Primer, filler, then more blocking. Na, still hated it! Lol

Jim is fooling you. He hated all of the block sanding.

I always used a product in a gallon can called, wax and grease remover. Wipe the whole car down with a wet rag and finish it off with a dry one before you start sanding. Mix small amounts of filler at a time to fill the low spots THIN COATS. Check for flatness with a straight edge (steel rule from a combination square). Another tip, second coat of filler add a drop or two of food coloring, it'll help when you sand down to the first coat to see if its low or higher. That 5in block sander will give you better results for removing material in the curves flatter, rather than divots with the 16in sander. If you need to remove a lot of filler quicker, get a rasp file better known as a 'cheese grater' in the auto body world. It'll save a ton of sanding and paper. Last tip... Wear a good pair of ear muffs. That vacuum is louder than you think at long intervals. Sorry for going on, Happy for ya! Enjoy the journey!

Wow! Thanks for some great tips. You probably couldn’t see but I had ear plugs to help reduce the noise. I like the 5in block already because there are so many curves. Thanks for the tips! Keep them coming.

@@robsrestorationgarage yer welcome! Don't get frustrated with the body work. You have too much time invested in this project and rushing to get it to paint, ... You won't be happy with the finish if you see your car 'waving' at you! Side note: had a 76 Midget 30 years ago, did a LOT of mechanical work on it. Fun car, lots of memories with my wife with weekend trips! Fast forward to 3 weeks ago. My wife found a 77 Midget on Facebook. So I did the right thing and surprised her with it. I drove it home! Gonna make memories again! Ah, ... I'm 68 now and don't bend like I used to and forgot about the "memories" I had WORKING on an MG Midget!!! But, She's happy! Really would love for her to drive it safely before the snow flies. Brakes musta been done by : Fly by Nite Garage! Ahh... memories! DID I do the RIGHT thing?

Great to see the midget in primer and bolted back together. I’m very interested in seeing your journey through prep and top coat. I have a 1970 Morris Minor pickup that I intend to paint myself, but not having spray painted before I need all the pointers I can get

Yes a Rasp Is A Good Tool to remove filler at the start. Beside my Paint lab Experience, I have 10 yrs + in a Drop Forge as a QC Supervisor. HEARING isn't Emphasized enough on YT. Sound might not seem Loud enough to hurt your ears now -- It's The Long Term Effect -- When You Can't Hear what your Wife & Grandkids say to you when you turn 60+

I always wear ear protection. The hose was long enough that I could put the shop vac outside of the garage and lower the door down. That reduced the sound too. Glad to hear from you. I thought maybe you had given up on me.
