Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.

Twice a week is fine Emi and you could easily do a similar 20 to 30 minute video with content taken over 2 or 3 days rather than just one. Just don't put yourself under loads of pressure to 'perform'. We like seeing the ebb and flow of your normal day. Your wildlife stuff is always good for input, and Miss Kelly of course! 😊

Always good to shift to neutral occasionally, just to allow you to catch up with yourself. Schedules can stifle the creative flow and scare away your muse. I took a trip to Vernon, Powell River, then Chemainus this summer. My son's dad was born and mostly raised there. I spent the day swimming at Fuller Lake. From Chemainus I went back to Vancouver and spent the night in a Walmart parking lot in Surrey , close to the border, then went camping in Washington at Lake Wenachee. I outfitted my van for camping with camping gear I had at home and I bought a van canopy from Princess Auto. That thing is the bomb. It turned out to be a great trip. I felt like a pseudo van lifer.😊

I live in a tiny studio apartment in New York City, and my compensation for saving money in a tiny space, was the option of chilling at spacious local cafes and treating them like my living rooms. Great places to people watch and journal; a necessity for my mental health. I wonder if it's the same for you when the walls at home get to feeling just a little too close. Stretching out now and then relieves the pressure. I also think scheduling activities twice a week spread apart relieves stress and gives one something to look forward to, with rest spots in between. When you schedule according to your passion, rather than perceived obligation, I think the videos can only get better.

The window screen/shade is really nice! No more mosquitoes in the summer. It’s nice for you to slow down, post less so you can enjoy some life without worrying about content. Nothing wrong with slowing down. Yea, a couple videos a week won't hurt. Maybe as you travel, just stay in one town about week or two and just relax and explore that town, make a couple videos of what you found interesting and then move to the next town and stay a bit.
