This area is my old stomping/canoeing grounds in the 70's and you are taking me back in time. Ontario now home and close to paddling waters but doesn't compare to the Northern Saskatchewan shield. Slip sliding through Otter and sailing up Frog Narrows against the current and Robertson Falls and Nistowiak . The two buddies I paddled here with are both paddling in the clouds now and this vid has brought them close to mind and heart. My wall has a Saskatchewan Tourist Board poster of Otter Rapids from the air and I see it every day and relive the trips there. Many thanks for the memories....

" there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply..." paddling about in a canoe. Thank you for 20 wonderful minutes of paddling with you in yours! Fine canoe, great country. Very well done video. Thanks for sharing. I didn't even mind helping out on the portages (other than the leaves slapping me in the face) ;-)

@GRSRiverrider8 жыл бұрын
Well, the primary use was to carry water. The reason I put it up front was for ballast though. Then the backpack which held the axe, knife, cookware, fire making stuff, camera stuff, utensils, books, rain gear, and warmer clothes. Closer to the middle was the canoe pack with tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag. In front of me was my food bag, with the map case tied on top.Thanks for watching. @GRSRiverrider5 жыл бұрын
I knew this would be a short trip with shorter portages, so I took my chances. Still haven't found the right solution to hot weather and portage footwear. Snake boots like cowboy boots or hunting boots? Thanks for the comment!
@CanoeingTheEdgeOfTheWorld5 жыл бұрын
@@GRSRiverrider You can spend a lot and get very nice snake boots that a king cobra couldn't penetrate. Honestly I think leather or even cheap rubber boots offer pretty good protection. I know of cases here in Florida were a pygmy rattlesnake bit regular tennis shoes and yet didn't make it through to the wearer. A larger snake probably would but we are overrun with the pygmy rattlers down here. Snake boots also generally go all the way to the knee. I like your videos.

I'm from Ontario so this could be somewhere in N. Ont. Great thing is the wilderness seems to be timeless, or allows you to step out of or back in time. Also complete lack of machines and electronic noise is unique. Nature on it's own terms and you can dismiss humans for a while.

All those are the very reason I go there. I talk about N. Sask. the same way you do about N. Ont. Little info for those reading... Saskatchewan is over 50% forest. Most of the population, however, lives in the prairies.
