Time Lapse of Installing 12 x 16 Costco Gazebo

Brandon and I bought a 12’ x 16’ cedar gazebo with an aluminum roof from Costco. We bought it online and it took a few weeks to deliver to our home. This gazebo will cover our outdoor bar/kitchen once we are able to build one. We are so thankful for our family, neighbors and B’s boss who brought their ladders and muscles to make this build possible. We love you all! ❤️ - Sarah

@@shanew7361 I was going to put gutters up I didn’t think it would work but it does on the deck but that’s because the deck is a lot bigger than the gazebo but there is no leaks

With four of us, it took a whole day to get through all the steps before installing the roof. The installation of the roof took about an hour and a half with lots of muscles and ladders!

How thick is your concrete slab? Did you use expansion wedges for install?

No, it doesn’t. We placed sealant that came with the gazebo kit. There are also pieces that also go over the seams of the cracks that blocks the water from coming it. The rain comes down from the sides of the roof

I hate it when the boxes aren't marked Open Me First which usually has the paper instructions. Then the boxes should be labeled in the order to open such as 1 of 4, 2 of 4, 3..4.. it demonstrates the company actually designed the product and assembly to be as straight forward as possible. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

These units require a building permit throughout the United States. (Residential Building Code) Your local Building and Safety department requires structural engineering information in order to approve the building permit but when you contact Yardistry they absolutely refuse to provide this information. That's right they refuse. If a building inspector ever sees this the owner will be fined and forced to remove the structure. Ask yourself what Yardistry is hiding, why won't they provide the structural engineering information so you can legally build their products in the US? There is a warning in the brochures and instructions "may require a permit". As a result Costco has no liability, you're on your own. And believe me Yardistry is well aware of this issue. They just don't care. No homeowners insurance will cover injury or damage resulting from an illegally constructed structure. Buyer beware.

It took two years to complete the course work necessary to obtain an Associate of Arts degree with a major I construction technology and code enforcement. I've spent the last three months arguing with the City Of Los Angeles building and safety department over whether or not this pavilion could be permitted and lost my appeal. Calls and emails back and forth with Yardistry trying to get them to release structural engineering information required for a building permit and they refused to help. Thankfully Costco has agreed to refund our money and pick up the three boxes. What a nightmare. I've found out that many cities have an exemption for the smaller 10X10 structures but still require an application to ensure the structure will be properly anchored. And go ahead and laugh if make you feel better.

@@25kmgb I am about to receive my 16x12 gazebo from Costco tomorrow and also saw online my city's permit law, and yes 10x10 and smaller isn't required but anything bigger than that, which this is, will need a permit. However, I just asked my contractor who did my backyard cement and he said they put these bigger gazebos up all the time and not once has he heard of an owner getting a permit. Welp, I'm just gonna yolo it too!

Appreciate the input. This is quite the blanket statement that's not always true depending on your local code. You should always check your local code first before making assumptions one way or the other. In our county in Ohio, gazebos are grouped in with accessory buildings, sheds and playhouses whereas a structure must have a floor area larger than 201 sqft to require a permit. This gazebo came in at 196 making it exempt 😃
