We renovated a disaster of a pool when we moved into our house. Liner broken, bottom needed to be completely redone. I love the pictures we took of my kids holding huge bullfrogs we pulled out of the bottom. It's so exciting when it starts looking like a pool and the water starts going in!

Did you only do gravel for the base of the walls? Doing ours now and would rather do gravel than have to bring in concrete for the 8”x24” base around the outside of the walls

I also thought that stone backfill would “invite water”, which you don’t want around the base of the pool (I get that it is self compacting)…. Always a back and forth between that and dirt…

By the code, it is not necessary for the main drain. If you install, you need 2 main drains or nothing. Now available a specific scimmer, so not necessarily main drain.
