WHO AM I?
Hey there, I’m Cinzia DuBois. I’m a part-time, self-funded PhD student and KZbinr, Podcaster and writer. I’ve been creating videos for over thirteen years. I discuss productivity, personal development, PhD, academia and mental well-being on this channel. On my main channel, I talk about all things dark and ancient history, literature and folklore.

I'm starting to think Cinzia is a witch because she always seems to release these videos when I need them the most. Either that, or my life is a complete mess, and her videos just happen to be very applicable to it.

My goal is to focus on my writing, reading and my crochet. My struggles are: Negative thought patterns, focus and stress management. I unfortunately have been wasting my time with scrolling on instagram and watching videos that don't add to my goals. Watching your video just made me understand that I use these time wasting habits as a coping mechanism to deal my stress and negative thoughts. Thank you so much Cinzia. P.S.: I just created a playlist of your videos so I can access them when I need some words of advice.

I love how you always turn to such vital topics for us, young academics. People (myself included) sometimes don't realize that all of these are quite common things and not just highly specific individual struggles (the burnouts, the inability to find the right partner at an early age, time "management" problems).

I have ADHD and undiagnosed autism, I have bad executive dysfunction and half the time I feel like I'm just waiting that way I can do something, I spend so much time mentally screaming at myself because I can't even force myself to do things I need to do to live like eat and drink on a regular basis, I can't do things I want when I want and it's so infuriating to just not have control about what I can and can't do on any given day.

Hi Cinzia!! I don’t usually comment on KZbin videos but I just found your channel and I’ve been binge watching all your videos and I have to say they’re helping me immensely. I’m in med school and it’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I’m struggling with it in a lot of ways but im glad I found your videos when I needed them most. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your video !! Was expecting something different from the popular mainstream hustle culture-y videos and wasn't disappointed at all !! These are issues you can actually work on , rather than vaguely trying to manage time

thank you for this video and sharing your thoughts and perspective on this matter, I really feel some kind of relief after watching it! Its really hard to not beat yourself over "wasting" time, since it is such a limited resource, but I want to make an effort in reminding myself that its okay because I feel like this is something that's making me miserable for quite some time and I really want to change something.

At the first part of the video I was like "I already know I cant control 'time' what is she talking about? I already know my problem is the other stuff." but then at the second part of the video you discussed about the real problem and it was helpful thanks.

They say there are never enough hours in the day... But how about minutes...? There sure are a helluva lot of minutes? No, don't get up...I'll show myself out. 🤪 In all seriousness, passivity is the most insidious time-suck that routinely makes a mockery of our schedule. Do something active, no matter how small it may seem.

I think this way of thinking can be very beneficial, but to imply that everyone is simply not managing priorities ect well enough is short sided. I know many peers who are full time students, full time workers, and parents and there simply aren't any priorities that can budge and there aren't anymore resources that can be pulled to alleviate the burden. For myself my disability means that even though I'd love to do things like hobbies, I physically need to lay down with my eyes closed for much of my day and even though that rest doesn't align with my ideal scenario I don't have the choice to forgo it. Without extreme amounts of rest there is no participation in other things. Even without a disability rest is important for human health. Waking up early and going to bed late and not taking breaks from productive task isn't a healthy way to live. For some people it absolutely is down to a choice/prioritization. But I think a lot of people who desperately try to find time management solutions are looking for control in situations where there isn't much to be had and to not acknowledge that sometimes there isn't enough time to do everything is doing them a disservice by perpetuating their guilt.

Really liked your comment. I have only watched a few videos on this channel but many ideas of this creator are quite guilt led and only work under the premise of everyone being able to 100% control every aspect of their lives. I have ptsd and have spent more than half my life in therapy trying to learn how to „manage stress“, „manage anxieties“, etc. Adding in health issues into the mix of chronic life force depleters has not been helpful either. In my humble opinion most of the topics discussed on such productivity and personal developement channels come down to lack of social support networks, inadequate or inaccessible health services and a world which forces us to choose between money and prioritizing mental health. It is not our shortcomings. Of course everyone can try to improve things within their personal limitations but I‘d say those limitations make up 60-90% of the entire problem.

I like Stephen King's idea of sitting down and writing for an hour every morning. This applies to me as an aspiring writer, but it is something that everyone can apply. If you're single, married, a dad or Mum. It doesn't matter. We all have one hour a day we could devote to that one thing that matters to US. Remember, Toni Morrison is one of the most prolific writers in history, and she did it all the same way king did. How did a single mom manage to be so successful as a writer? By doing all her writing before her kids woke up in the morning. She did her day job when they went off to school. Eventually she became famous as a writer and didn't need a day job anymore.

I like to map out my day. From the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, I think about what I want to accomplish throughout the day. Mostly as a guideline and adjust as necessary. Most of the time it works.

Yup, you totally hit the nail on the head with this one. I theoretically have time to do stuff after work, for example, but my problem is that after work I usually have no mental/physical energy to do stuff or have too much decision fatigue from the day to be creative. So I have been trying to get up earlier in the day so I can do yoga and read before work, sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I do only 10 minutes of yoga but it is still better than nothing. And of course, I sometimes spend hours watching vlogs on youtube to cope with anxiety/stress xD

This was a nice video! Quite honestly, one of the biggest 'breakthroughs' I had recently regarding "time management" and pretty much everything else in life is to correctly organize the hierarchy of my life. To not look at my life as "equal plain field", full of "democracy" slogans. But to "build" a Kingdom in my life. Understand what matters. ❤ ‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:26‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬ [26] Therefore if you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about the other things? [31] But seek His kingdom, and these things will be provided to you.

I recently saw a video about in a channel that talks about the trends in modern Economy and how is fashion to say that you have to squeeze every minute of your day ir order to be successful. and how this is not jus unhealthy but it does not guarantee the rewards we are/were conditioned to look for. I hope is no to late to reverse the general burnt out that many people suffers in our society.
