They are remembered for their sacrifices and their many contributions. when nationalism was introduced and when the sultan at the time wanted to revolutionize the army they opposed it (rightfully so, I believe)... But that's history for you. People make mistakes and we learn from them.

@@storytellerscorner2278 if Ottoman killed thousands of people why they stopped to kill all of them ? waiting for revenge ? war is killing people but when they conquer th places they are acting their rules for government for all nations, when you read your story imagine when they started to kill why they didnt touch in dospat ? or sandanski or in kubrat? i lived in bulgaria i was born in bulgaria, i travelled all of cities in bulgaria , you are reading we killed the people , look the picture in Plevne museum we had so many mosques in Plevne but now just one and that one is also closed , we didnt touch anything just in Istanbul you can see more than 70 church, can you see somewhere in bulgaria same ?

@@mestanmestanoglu6648 I understand that right now things aren't like that and maybe they wouldn't repeat history. But you can't say the turcs didn't touch anything. They left Bulgaria in ruins when the conquered it. They destroyed churches and historical documents of the tsars and kans of the past so we would forget who we are and what a strong country was Bulgaria in the Medieval times. One man decided to gather greek documents and collect them in a book so he could make the people wake up and realize that they were Bulgarians, christians and they should be proud of it. Proud of speaking in their native language and not in Greek (because yeah they kinda weren't so good at the time either). Also if you've been everywhere in Bulgaria you must have seen the church in Batak and the innocents murdered there. Their blood is still on the walls, some of the bones are still there too. The people of Batak were scared so they locked themselves in the church. Sadly when the turcs finally got in, they killed everyone. There is poem dedicated to this event as well who has lived before and after Bulgaria received its liberty. Also I don't think rulers with good intentions to forcefully take Bulgarian boys to make them soldiers who would later go back to their villages to kill their parents and many other people. Because the enichers were taught to kill, destroy and have no mercy no matter if it was a man, a woman, a child or an elder they had to kill. About the churches. I'm not dump, of course there are churches in Istanbul and maybe in Ankara. But I travelled with a bus in Turkey (both European and Asian part). You say there are churches everywhere. In every town, in every city, in every village. Well, in the places I went there were no churches or any signs of something christian. In Bulgaria we have mosques everywhere. I've seen at least one in every Bulgarian town and city. You say there is only 1 in Pleven. So what? One per town is enough. In the south mountains there are plenty because most of the people there are muslims but I guess you kinda missed those spots too. I don't wanna be mean or anything. Just saying that if the turcs were so peaceful back then, there wouldn't be a need of rebellions or churches which's walls have blood on them. Thank you for the discussion.

Come on. You can't supress people for 800 - 900 years and expect that they pay their taxes and to stay loyal. The only reason why the balkanic countries are speaking their native languages now and not turkish is, that the Ottomans allowed to speak their native languages and the local rulers were one of the citizens. I can show you dozens of documents from the Turkish Ottoman Archives that prooves this. The archives are open to everyone.

Child stories... Look if they were taken against the will of their parents how loyal the army would be? I would feed my anger and wait till the right time to pay back... The Sultan promised the families elite education and aided the families... No loyalty is forced... Think about that...

@@storytellerscorner2278 Jannisaries received one of the best education at the time. Most of them had administration jobs and they could even become a Grand Vizier if they had the talent for it. But the question still stands. There have been millions of Janissaries that were brought up under Ottoman rule. How were they still loyal to the Sultan if they were forced by the majority?

@ilianD73 I can understand why the sultan would take the male children. This was a way to exterminate the Bulgarian family. No male heirs to carry on the family name.I think the Romans use to use the same tactic. To take young boys to train them to fight in their legions. It's a miracle that there is a people called Bulgarians today.Great movie.I asked my friend George Sabev who is Bulgarian to see if he could find me a dvd?

@airboy52 the only one who's reading propaganda is you. the ottoman empire was just as violent and brutal as all other empires, and the fact that you don't accept that means you haven't faced reality. because of the ottoman empire Bulgaria lost 500 years of it's history and that's why we're in a mess today.
